Automatic Transmission Shifting
Alright so before I ask the question I'll clarify to avoid jokes:bonk:
Almost everyday I wish I had a manual, but at the time of buying (used) I was getting a significantly better deal with an auto 86 rather than a manual, so I had to go for it for now (plus I just think manual would be more fun in somewhat powerful cars? let me know if I'm wrong). So the question: Is there ANY way to switch the upshift/downshift on the lever to downshifts be push forward, and upshift be pull back?? I'm so used to German cars and actually partially lose my mind switching frequently. And it just makes more sense to upshift by pulling back because if you're accelerating you're meant to be pushed back?? |
I have no idea if anyone offers something like this, but I would imagine it would be fairly simple to do with a tune (if aftermarket tunes for the transmission exist).
Alternatively, if you're handy it might be possible to swap the shift level wires of the two contacts. You could take off the shifter boot and have a look at the electronics of the shift lever to see if this is something that's possible. |
Why take a good deal if it's not what you want?
There may be a way to change the logic but it's probably far more trouble and cost than it'll be worth. Unsure if tuning software will be able to change that switch function Hopefully someone will have an answer for you, but I'd try to just get used to it. I know the frustration; I got used to the tiptronic shifting in E46 BMWs for a bit when I worked in a shop. Going from those to other vehicles, it was backwards and I continually was going the wrong way |

I did this last year. It works great.

Just like you, I bought the automatic since there was a unique deal. I have no regrets. It is still fun to drive in manual mode. |

I like the paddles on 86 compared to other cars I've driven, but I find it more fun to move the stick back and forth, seems a bit more dramatic haha |
