When the Ex drops by and shows off her new shoes to your current girl!

UPS dropped this off yesterday... install to come in August.

Drove up to Burlington for a small get together, about 350 km round trip. Car averaged 7.4L/100 at 130kmh on the highway, not bad for the 245 RS4. A lot of road noise from the tires, but this is to be expected.
https://i.imgur.com/IhnPe6T.png Motor mount update: the vibrations aren't that bad even without a tune, just had to get used to them. I have noticed that at idle with the AC on it is the worst and definitely should get a tune to raise the idle. I have an OFT in the garage, just being lazy about modifying the stock map. And some interior tuning as well, JDM black steering wheel trim and under radio trim pieces. https://i.imgur.com/g3bwU9S.jpg |
I haven't participated in a gathering like that in years! Nice showing.

Oil pan has a pinhole leak due to corrosion. It appeared to be surface but evidently that diagnosis was incorrect. Loses about 100-200 mL of oil a night, so new oil pan will be ordered and hopefully installed this week. For now, RTV on the affected area to hopefully stop lubricating my driveway.
|
RTV seal has worked, new pan still to be ordered. Track pads swapped in for a lapping day on Wednesday, nut and bolt check complete and nothing was loose.
Picture from Mosport DDT last year so this thread isn't just a text wall: https://i.imgur.com/tdzflPb.jpg |
Do you listen to Olivia Rodrigo by any chance?

New oil pan has been installed with fresh hardware, and man cleaning the RTV sucked... never doing this job again, a shop can deal with that LOL. Removing the OEM header was a challenge because the bolts were corroded due to heat and salt. I ended up cutting the overpipe at the flange and picking up a replacement. Fresh Grimmspeed/Vibrant gaskets will be used, as the 243k ones were a bit past their prime for being reused.
While the pan was curing, I installed the Bride Zeta IV seat on Bride FO rails, more black interior trim, and a GCS 4th brake light. Currently the light is only wired in for reverse lights, as I decided I want to build a harness to tap into instead of splicing into the car's wiring. https://i.imgur.com/DDt3ovB.jpg?1 https://i.imgur.com/Oq2jke9.jpg |
Long weekend, and a long post. Got the car back together after the oil pan swap and drove up to Markham for a car meet, saw the new 2022 GR86. The car looks a lot better in person, and I am excited to see first hand how many parts are carried over from the first generation cars. https://i.imgur.com/ZLIQiIT.jpg
Next morning was a full day at DDT, I got nearly 2 hours of relatively traffic free seat time which was awesome. The track is so challenging and I have so much to learn. I don't have any photos of the car on track yet, but I did take this one in the hot pits and @Route was driving our friend's STI https://i.imgur.com/LeDkNSp.jpg. The drive home was uneventful, got 7.3L/100 @ 130kmh fuel economy with the RS4's and a semi-full trunk. I did stop once to stretch my legs somewhere along the way and took this picture which I quite like. The GCS 4th brake light is installed with an OEM style PNP harness. https://i.imgur.com/49xOTmZ.jpg The following Monday Grand Bend was hosting a track day, so I signed up late and unfortunately ended up in the green/beginner group. There was a lot of traffic so I played ring taxi and took some friends and family out during the morning sessions. You know it's bad when the car with less than 200hp is lifting in the straights to coast because of how slow the more powerful cars are. By the end of the day, most of the slow traffic had gone home or run out of brake pads, and I was able to get in some decent laps during the final open session of the day. I managed to beat my old personal best (Grand Bend Mod circuit) of a 1:00.932 with a 0:59.863. While at the track I also ticked off the 244k km mark.https://i.imgur.com/Vh1nA14.jpg Overall, I'm very happy with the car and hoping to get 1 or 2 more track nights/days in before the car gets winterized and stored away from the salt. |

Small update, got a few photos from the track back and this is by far my favorite.
Also ordered a replacement sandwich plate for the Blitz cooler, hoping it shows up before October so I can squeeze in one last track day before winter. https://i.imgur.com/teZT1NO.jpg |
So cool that it's the same car. You arguably have the most famous twin ever.

Aim Solo DL showed up, final track day booked for the season at Grand Bend (though there may be an impromptu TMP day). Sad the year is coming to an end, but 2022 will hopefully be a lot less prone to oil leaks. Oil cooler parts and some other small bits from Japan should be showing up in the next week and will go on over the winter.

Final track day of the season tomorrow at Grand Bend. Oil changed, brake pads swapped, oil cooler lines tightened and no longer sweating. Excited to try out the Solo and fingers are crossed for it to be dry! https://i.imgur.com/QupFFwS.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/ammf65z.jpg

Grand Bend was definitely interesting. To start, the morning sessions were cool and dry. Managed to chip away at my times getting more comfortable with the car and taking a few friends for ride alongs. Then without a passenger, I was able join the sub 1:16 club on Technical with a 1:15.900 while chasing down a Veloster N. https://i.imgur.com/1LkNRzG.jpg After lunch it started raining right as my group was going out, and while putting around on a warm up lap waiting for oil to come to temp I caught some water and ended up parking the car in the wall. https://i.imgur.com/vtIITPg.jpg To start, I am okay and my passenger is okay. We hit the wall at about 30 kmh backwards. The damage looks a lot worse than it is, the trunk will be pulled out this winter and sealed up, and the bumper skin is going back on. Tail light, wheel + tire, trunk, muffler, and suspension are all okay. Honestly, I am most upset about the exhaust tip as I quite like the sound of the Blitz. I'm not really sad or angry that it happened, I knew(and now know first hand) the risks of going to the track and if I wasn't willing to accept them I would not go. 2022 plans are to fix up the car and push for a low 1:15 Technical, and a 0:58 on mod. https://i.imgur.com/J24aSkl.jpg |
Glad to hear you're ok dude. Didn't realize you had a run in. You'll fix her up in no time and I'll see you again at the track next year

Lmao, for that amount of money you'll have enough practice to make it to the red group 😉

Car is now in storage mode. Back on stock wheels + some bald tires, pulled out the bucket seat for the sim, and pulled the battery.
Waiting on a few more quotes to come in from body shops before towing her to one. https://i.imgur.com/sgrEJvq.jpg https://i.imgur.com/2OhIWHb.jpg In the mean time, Assetto in VR to practice for next year. Since the car is getting a new bumper, I figured it might be time to wrap the rear end as well and go wingless. https://i.imgur.com/E63qEyG.png |
I’m curious as to how you did your bucket seat setup. Are you using the Bride seat, with aftermarket rails, and the factory seat belts? Did you happen to use a buckle extender on the center console side to have body contact with your lap belt?

This post also has another picture, and I believe there are a few more through the thread. https://www.ft86club.com/forums/show...7&postcount=51 If I had to do it again, I would ditch the sliders and get a PCI/Bride solid mount. https://i.imgur.com/1DLfB0x.jpg?1 https://i.imgur.com/3PGRyUd.jpg?1https://i.imgur.com/il563yl.jpg |
Good to know! Nice setup and thanks for all the detail.

https://i.imgur.com/mgDmhlU.jpg Got bored over reading week, added all the PNs I could find to the first page. Parts slowly coming in for the 2022 season, nothing crazy. Replacement rear bumper, shift knob, and some other interior bits. Car should be going to the shop soon to have the trunk pulled out. Going into the winter there are no crazy plans for the car, but a custom axle back and some aero would be fun. |
I miss DDT. I don't know why they covered over some of the layouts, as I liked the variety.
|
Nice!

Sorry to hear about your accident but it's good to see the car being used the way it is.
Can i ask what was the reason behind the switch from Greddy x KW coilovers to the Ohlins? |

After using both coilovers, the KWs had the locking collars strip after 2 height adjustments in the rear, and dont ride as well as the Ohlins. The build quality of the Ohlins is top notch and the out of the box the damper settings are perfect for the street imo. Each click has a slightly noticeable difference, where on the KWs to get a difference that was noticeable took 2-3 clicks. |
Picked up a TRD Sport Meter trim for the Blitz gauges. Not sure what I am going to put in the 3rd opening yet, AFR/coolant temp/voltage?
https://i.imgur.com/EJQsyEF.jpg Also got some cheap side skirts and a replacement rear bumper. "car is staying as it is" lasted about 5 weeks... lol. |
