Over the weekend marked 3 years of 86 ownership. Didn't do anything crazy, went for a drive a small drive and put some e85 in the tank... which immediately triggered 2.5" of snow overnight. Updates over the last weeks include driveline fluid change, fixing an exhaust leak, new to me RacerX endlinks to replace the clunking Shiteline ones (thanks @RedReplicant), and a whole host of parts for the incoming BRZ to refresh it and get it ready for daily duty.

Installed the splitter over the weekend, pretty straight forward. Full chassis mount, passed the standing test and didn't fly off on the highway so that is a win. Also threw the RPF1 + old RS4s back on for the day. Car drives like ass, and I'm sure the eyeball alignment, corded tires, questionable tire pressures (hot: RF 32 RR 30 LR 33 LF 29), and aero that needs work had nothing to do with it. Next weekend calls for the fresh RS4 and an alignment.

Swapped to the new front knuckles last weekend on the front passenger bearing was cooked. Put back the old one for now, and ordered replacements from Rockauto. Those arrived today and unfortunately the new one is... not going to work. I'm letting a shop deal with replacing this front as well as both rears. On the phone the shop said "you're going to ruin our day, aren't you" when I mentioned the car was from Ontario. Also ordered a Whiteline bumpsteer kit (ball joints + tie rod ends) from Subieland, as mine are definitely past their prime and the car deserves some new bushings. While the rear end is mostly apart, I'm debating buying OEM axles straight from Subaru but at $400 a pop it's hard to justify :/. I know the off-brands are known to fail under track use, even with repacked grease.

Rockauto accepted the return and is shipping me out a fresh bearing, should arrive early next week. Whiteline KCA435 arrived in record time from Subieland as well, our shipping person asked me if there was any part of the car I didn't plan on getting through the mail lol. Also shelled out and got new axle nuts from Subaru at $9 a pop q.q
Still in the air about axles, calling a few dismantlers tomorrow to see how prices and stock is looking. Hopefully I can snag 2 OEM axles for a decent price. If not, $300 shipped for 2 on Rockauto? |
Anything wrong with the current axles or just trying to refresh while in there?

I did the same with my driveline fill/drain bolts and have already reaped the rewards. Going from rounded soft bolts to fresh OEM ones is so worth it... I hate dealing with stripping hardware. Quote:

No tears or leaks in the boots and they didn't feel like they had any play while there. Probably going to throw them in the car as-is and rebuild the ones that come out as practice, and then see from there if I want to get a third pair. C$275 tax in, not awful compared to the clowns on Facebook asking C$300 a side with 170k+ km... |
