Unable to Read ROM
Hey guys, I just installed UEL Cat-less headers on my 2014 FR-S, so I'm trying to flash the OFT Stage 2+.
I bought the cable, downloaded ECUFlash (v.1.44.4870) and RomRaider; following all the instructions from this post and this post and even this post. I downloaded all the new definitions, the new 32BITBASE file, confirmed that my computer is recognizing the Tactrix in Device Manager. I plugged my car battery into a charger to confirm that my battery was good for the tune. I'm trying to flash it ZA1JB01C because it's compatible with A01C. And when I click `Read ROM` in ECUFlash, I get the following logged messages and an error Code:
reading vehicle info... [11:56:38.256] I've done everything from simultaneously turning on the Ignition and pressing 'Ok' on the window, to waiting 2 minutes before clicking 'Ok' after the window prompts me to turn on the ignition. My car has never been tuned before so it's stock and I feel like I'm running outta things to try. I'm fairly confident that it's not a hardware issue but who knows at this point. Can anyone lend some advice? My head hurts from bashing it against the wall trying to figure this out. |
Try waiting 15seconds between the message that says (iirc) ”turn ignition on” and the press on the ”ok button” that starts reading.
If i don’t do that i have the same problem as you |

I waited any amount of time from instantaneously clicking Ok, to waiting 15 seconds, to waiting 15 seconds after the 5 beeps, to waiting a couple of minutes. All have the same results. |
have you owned car since new ? if no may have been tuned with ecutek or brzedit
have you tried a read rom ?? check battery volts over 12 v try bending pins in tactrix inwards , borh rowws towards centre line about 0.5 mm lot of early cars had loose obd conbectors, or try a short obd extension cable less than 1 meter im thinking this conbwction is likely cause make sure your srlecting brz as vehicle |
I bought the car with roughly ~3k miles, and everything was stock (per the dealer).
The battery is brand new too, so it's reading 12.58V and just for good measure I've got it hooked up to the charger that's giving it 12V/6A. BRZ is selected under the Car Select menu after every time I reopen ECUFlash. I bent the pins inward for good measure, but I know my OBD port is good because before throwing on the Tactrix I had an OBDII BT thingy that worked great. I even got another chord (1ft long) to try. And at the end of all this tinkering, I'm still receiving the exact same error message in the log. Hopefully we figure this out. |

can you try READ on a friends car ?? also try removing battery termial for few minutes reconnect then try read with tactrix before you start car if you have a micro sd car less than 8 gb put the logcfg.txt in the root directory as per my tactrix post see if you get ant log data. if tactrix logs data ok then connection to ecu ok note dont have usb cable plugged in when logging it only logs in standalone mode. if it logs but wont read ECU then it very likely locked by tune |

Unfortunately, I don't have a friend who owns a car that I could read.
I also tried unplugging the battery and waiting like 15 for the residual to die out and tried again to no avail. But I did make a little headway because I was able to get it to log using the SD Card. Here is the logcfg.txt I used and the log0001.csv (that I had to convert to .txt to upload) that it outputted . At least now I know that the thing is able to (at minimum) talk to the ECU. But then I tried reading with ECUFlash, same errors and no connection possible. |

OK im pretty sure ecu is locked by tune If tactrix reads ecu log data connection is good. but if its cannot get past the seed/key challenge then that indicated its been changed by another tune system Unfortunatly i dont have a list of the CVN checksum verification number VS ecu calid as this would tell you if its non stock. But im pretty certian you car is ecu locked. do you know anyone with an ecutek cable kit if they do a query ECU and it says ecu has licience its ecutek. you could also try pulling back on cruise stalk for a couple of seconds with engine running if tacometer jumps to 1000/2000/3000 or 4000 it ecutek tune |
I pulled back on the cruise stalk and the Tach pegged itself at 1000.
I guess I'm ECU locked........crap. Thanks Steve for the help mate. |

Well good in a way , you now know it has a $250 ecutek licience in ecu. if you buy a used ecutek cable kit maybe $200 you can tune with ecutek , can help wirh tunes |

Tell me about it. It doesn't have any of the performance of a tune...I think the original person attempted a tune, then just decided to reflash the stock. |

you need an ecutek kit and to log to know what s happening with your tune otherwise you re just owning a car with a unknown ECU tune (up to you if you re cool with it) |
