BRZ settings for fastest lap times! Please advise
 

Hi all!


New track driver here, I've only been about 10 times to the track in my 2020 Subaru BRZ.


I just wanted to see what settings you guys use for fastest lap times and why that may be the case.


The BRZ comes with a track mode button but if you hold the traction control button for three seconds you can turn off all systems.



My question is for fastest lap times and for learning how to drive well should you just use the 'track mode' button or should you turn all systems off (i.e. traction control, stability control, etc.).

Personally I like to turn it off i.e. hold the button for 3 seconds. My idea is the less assists the more speed you can carry through the turns until you over cook it of course. :/ I also run lower than oem psi. 29 or 27 works for me

I have 2017 PP and I track with "track mode" on. I previously owned a '13 and ran with "track mode" on, as well. My feeling is that the "17" allows more "slippage" than the '13. With all systems on they both trigger way too easy and do slow you down. Haven't tried with them totally off. It's my daily and I want to drive home in one piece after a day or weekend at the track. The 3-second hold on the TCS button is the way to go. "Track" setting on the '17+ cars isn't terrible but it will hold you up and IMO isn't beneficial even to a relative newb to track driving. 3-second hold and do your thing, you'll learn more, sooner, and have more fun ;)

Hold the TCS button to turn 'nearly everything' off. On my 2017 it will still interfere if the slip angle gets extreme or prolonged.

So you had 10 track days. With everything on, when u go around does the system
come on a lot? If not, wait till the car corrects( it becomes very annoying) once it starts correcting at every corner , then it's time to turn them all off.

Fast lap times come from a variety of factors. If, in your 10 track sessions, the "nannies" haven't kicked in yet then you haven't pushed hard enough. Have you had any in-car instruction or "chalk talk" sessions with guys who know? I went to off all for my second session with my first 2013 back in 2012.. it's insanely intrusive IMO, and that was starting in VSC sport. I never tried it on the default setting.

I always ran Trac Off in my 2013 because VSC Sport is super intrusive. However after installing the 2017+ track mode I just use that because it’s night/day between that and VSC sport, while still being a bit safer in my mind.

At Laguna Seca I can cause of bit of corner exit oversteer, every corner, and it won’t interfere at all. TC/SC will flash at me flooring it over turn 1 though, so it’s thinking something isn’t right there but still it doesn’t slow the car down.

I got the lights a lot this past weekend (2&3rd times out with the car). I’m excited to see what differences the 3sec hold next time I’m out.

I have a tS, so the TCS isn't as intrusive. I found that if I leave everything on, and drive right on the limit where the TCS isn't engaging, I can pull off lap times that would put me on the podium in my class in the 86 cup series. This method helps me find smoother lines that maintain speed, so I'm not doing anything to upset the TCS, and it makes my laps significantly faster.

There is no doubt in my mind that these cars are faster with everything all off. I did a couple wet days with the 17+ track mode and it was still too intrusive. For a novice it might not be a bad idea, but after you've gotten a few seasons under your belt just turn everything off and don't look back.

You are inferring there’s a different tcs for a tS or that because a tS is 17+ there’s different tcs?

You have a 17+ is why it is not as intrusive.

I'd like to see video evidence of the second part of your claim.
