Initial Service Recommendation

Just purchased my 2020 BRZ manual trans with performance package.
I'm at 300 miles right now, it looks like the first recommended service is at 6,000 miles.
This seem high to me as most other new vehicles I've owned did an early oil change around 300 to 600 miles.
Any recommendations, or should I just stay with the basic schedule that Subaru states?
Thanks for any insight.

Stick to the break in schedule in the manual. Enjoy the car afterward. Do your own oil change every 5k miles or starting 6 months after the manufacture date on the vehicle window sticker.

You may want to do the manual transmission fluid change around 10K. Their are lots of posts about reason for this early service.

it's wise to check the dipstick every few tanks and right after a dealer oil change.

Change oil around 3k miles. That oil has been in there since manufacture.

Stick to recommended manufacturer dates at least for initial break-in period. Changing the trans and LSD fluids is definitely something to look at 10,000 miles. While you're at it, get a Fumoto oil drain valve, thank me later.

Depending on your driving style and purposes with the vehicle, oil change times may vary.

did an oil change at 1000 miles and the trans/diff at 5000.

I followed the specified break-in procedure and changed my engine and transmission fluid a bit early at 3000mi. You probably won't have to change your transmission fluid that early but I did since I'm up North and wanted better cold temperature shifting.

On a side note, do your own oil changes and other maintenance. No matter how reputable the dealership is, there's always a chance of some kid over-torquing something and screwing things up. Plus you get to choose your own oil & filter.

For "best" oil and "best" filter, you may refer to the 99 million posts in these forums.

I sent in my first two oil samples at 5k/10k and there's plenty base left in the oil to go 7k easy. I'm assuming that's why the manual is slated for every 7.5k.

OP if you have doubts about the oil, just send samples to Blackstone labs. Congrats on the car and enjoy the first 1k break-in!

In the "old days" cars came with a brake in oil. surfaces and tolerances were not as good. the oil change was to get rid of micro shavings and the first oil. Today the oil is partial synthetic and can run the full indicated mileage, however most of us will change much sooner just to be careful.

I did an oil change and swapped the diff and trans oil for Motul 300 at 1,500 miles. I’m coming up on 5k miles, so I’ll get the oil changed again at 6k (Subaru is covering the first one)

Not about the oil. About the crap that can absolutely be in the oil that early. I usually wait to 1000 miles but it doesn't hurt to make sure no random metal shavings are swimming in the oil.

Depends how you're using your car. I personally would do the first oil change at 3000 miles or after my 1st track day.

CSG has written a guide of the recommended maintenance intervals for the 86 and BRZ, differentiating between daily and track cars here:
