That sucks cus she's not even old. (my mom is just under 60 also... like two months from it!)

I hope you guys figure out what you're going to do. There's always chilling for two weeks to get over whatever you have and then celebrating late :)

DANG, spike021, there ya go again, worrying about stuff you don't need to be worrying about - :eyebulge:

I used to worry about stuff like that back in the day - till I wound up in an ICU for 5 days with an exploded stomach ulcer, and tubes running into and out of me.

After that, I decided NOT to worry about soo many things -

Like Dadhawk said, the boxes could be insulated and then cooled with dry ice, but besides that fact, if they were planning on administering all of it in a short time then there is less concern about it cooling a little.

Moderna’s vaccine has to be shipped at –20 degrees Celsius (–4 degrees Fahrenheit), and it can then be stored at that temperature for six months. Once thawed and kept in a refrigerator between two and eight degrees C (36 to 46 degrees F) it is good for up to 30 days. Pfizer’s vaccine must be kept at –70 degrees C (–94 degrees F)—a much greater challenge. Once transferred to a refrigerator, it must be administered within five days.

Suddenly everyone wants to get the vaccine :eyebulge:

The many strange long-term symptoms of Covid-19, explained

Menstrual changes and erectile dysfunction

Quote:

One of the most surprising new findings about long Covid’s effects is that both women and men have reported sexual and reproductive system symptoms following a Covid-19 infection.

“The testes are one of the highest sites of ACE2 expression,” writes the British Society of Sexual Medicine (BSSM) in its position paper on Covid-19. (This ACE2 enzyme is the primary way SARS-CoV-2 enters cells.) The BSSM adds that SARS-CoV-2 also damages cells on the inner surface of blood vessels called endothelial cells, a condition which is “frequently present in men with erectile dysfunction and testosterone deficiency.”

I’ll let you know soon if I gain mutant powers. I won’t if I die of course.

Since it causes clots and other vascular issues, no surprise.

My entire takeaway from this is confusion.

The test isn't free in the US?

I had a scare (turned out to be chicken pox... even better) along with a few friends and family here in Canada, testing was quick. In and out in under half an hour and results were received online in less than 48hrs. Not a rural area either.

Cost was $0.

I'm honest to god baffled by America's response to this pandemic. Most Instagram stories out of the US make it look like nothing has changed in the day to day lives of most American's.

This followed by reports of almost a quarter million new cases in a single day.

Don't try to make sense of it with the US as a single entity. Each state is acting on their own and there is no comprehensive national plan that everyone is following. It doesn't help that different people have different realities based on what they are reading.

I wound up getting in line earlier this morning and getting a PCR test. It cost me nothing out of pocket except an hour and a half of time. I don't expect to get results until the week after next, but I'll let y'all know if I get something sooner. Yes, by the time I expect to get results, it will be two weeks out.

A colleague I was traveling with in another state got rapid antigen tests for him and his (currently sick) family of 4 and all tested negative.

Had to provide the prioritized list of my "front line" workers today for the vaccine. Yes, IT workers can be considered front line. About 50% of my staff is in patient rooms/areas on any given day. Unfortunately, I fit into the other 50% so am not on the priority list.

I did ask to be put on the "second runner up" list if anyone refused their shot. The Infection Prevention person thought it was funny. I thought I was being serious.

It's not "free" anywhere but yes for the most part the patient isn't charged for it. It's either covered by insurance or is provided free of payment through other programs, at least in my experience.

Instagram (and most social media) is not representative of real life. I've travelled several times through the South (Georgia, Florida, NC, SC) during the pandemic and 95% of persons are following the rules with no complaints. Like anything, it's the 5% getting the attention.

Unfortunately, even following the rules you can get sick.
