Do the hoods lay flush?? Help before I pull the trigger!

With this being my first post in this lovely community I need help figuring out if my eyes are playing tricks on me or if there’s something wrong with this beauty before I drive 4 hours to make the purchase for it. Do the hoods of the 2016 models of the FR-S lay flush into the car? I’ve been trying to compare the pics provided by the dealer to stock photos of similar white models of the car and I think the dealer might be hiding something. The deal for this car seems too good to be true. Extremely low miles (20k) for a 2016 model, no accidents and only 1 owner going for roughly $18k. I’m a bit of an optimistic so I assumed maybe it was an older person who cashed out on it to only drive it to pick up their prescriptions. Please help me out before I drive down there this weekend to be surprised due to shady dealerships. Can you guys let me know if everything checks out as fine?

The hoods on these cars can run a wide range of nice tight fit to sloppy, lift 1/2 inch in the wind fit. It is an easy adjustment. That one might be a smidge high but not way out of the "normal".
That is about right as far as price goes.
Go for it and if when you see it in person the hood seems high have them agree to fix it before signing.

Thanks man! So even if they give me crap about fixing it do you think it would be something I could fix myself? I really would hate for this hiccup to be an even bigger problem then what it really is.

Really easy to do.

eh all I see is the normal gap for the rubber seal...those pics aren't the best to determine hood fitment, but considering the fender/bumper fitment looks good, it seems totally fine.. pricing seems pretty normal to me, not great or overpriced.

okay I just wanted to be on the safe side but thanks for the input. and just compared to other sellers I was shocked by the low mileage + the model year to be so low but your right.

Impureclient 11-30-2020 03:52 PM

Price and miles for year are good. I have just hit 26k on my 2015 so whoever had it was using it about the same I do and mine is pretty mint.
If I was closer, I'd go check it for you myself since I'm just sitting at home bored but it's about an hour from me. Maybe somebody closer in here can check it out.
Like Tcoat said, the fenders are real easy to adjust. In that 2nd pic it looks like the passenger front side area is off but if the Carfax is good maybe it just needs a little adjusting.
The black line across the front is normal though and just the rubber showing through.

Welcome to our forum, blakkoutdarko -

That car looks good from here -

That old man that used it to pick up prescriptions, most likely also stopped at Walmart, so check the car for door dings - :eyebulge:

Impureclient 11-30-2020 04:07 PM

Check your PMs, I got clear pics from the dealer. It's good. Passenger side just needs a little adjust.

Here, just posted on here to make easier.

kind of odd, now that i think of it, but yes, there is a rubber seal that sits between the hood and front bumper. now that im staring it it, its kind of an odd and ugly panel gap. but its normal, my car has it too. i remember the top gear boys roasting the lexus lfa for its hood panel gap, but thats more of a vent, the frs one is just a plain old ugly line

not all heroes wear capes..thanks again for going out your way to clearing that for me

pallen 11-30-2020 05:02 PM

yeah, that rubber seal is fairly prominent on these cars. Not sure why it's not under the hood instead of showing in the gap like it does, but its apparently normal.
A lot of it is the angle. If you are standing in front looking down at the hood like that, it's most noticeable.

Or 3 miles at a time around the track. Says an “older person”.
I stop at the pharmacy on my way back from lapping.

In my opinion, the hood seal only sticks out on the brighter painted cars like white. It technically does have a purpose on top of sealing that hood gap, it also holds down the top of the bumper to the frame with push pins. I think that's all they could do with cost and development.

JD001 12-07-2020 02:44 PM

The colour looks consistent, pearlescent is difficult to match and IMHO it would be very obvious if the car had seen some action.

I've gotten used to it, but it's one of the things I don't like about the car, and it doesn't appear to be fixed in the next gen.
