TMPS affecting snow mode on 2020 model
 

Owner of a Toyota 86 (2020) and purchasing my first set of winter tires. Trying to figure out if it’s fine to get the tires / rims without the TPMS kit. Will it affect any of the modes (snow mode, specifically). Thx in advance !

No affect at all. It just lights up the warning light and does nothing else. The light on the dash will stay on of course but you get used to it after a day or two.

I have been running a set of Blizzak WS70's on my 2013 BRZ for going on 8 winters now. I never purchased extra TPMS's and the light does stay on constantly and does not effect driving behavior. I have a MT so my "snow mode" is just starting in 2nd gear so I can't say if it would effect that mode on a AT. Although, for about a week after switching to the winter setup, the light actually DOESN'T come on for a few days. :iono: Just a bit of advice, if you live in a climate where the outside temps can reach above 50 degrees during the winter (happens in Chicago), do your best to take it easy while driving. Winters are super squishy when it starts to get into that temp range and you can/will cause way faster tire wear. The car will also handle like its driving on water baloons. Watch those on/off ramps :thumbsup:

IMO, it's more important to have the TPMS on your winter set than on your summers. Why? Because you don't want to be changing or working on your tires, worst is to get stuck, when it's freezing outside. TPMS should alert you beforehand when there's something wrong with your tire(s), and not after the fact, to avoid such hassles like working in the freezing weather.
