Painted Brake Calipers

Decided to paint my brake calipers today with some G2 paint I had sitting around. Didn't like the calipers being so plain.

nice!

86_ZN6 08-11-2012 12:33 AM

hmmm... for some reason it makes the calipers looks smaller

YinYang1980 08-11-2012 12:42 AM

nice color choice :-), love it!

russv 08-11-2012 12:58 AM

nice

mikeg7827 08-11-2012 11:59 PM

red calipers would look awesome on my whiteout... but after painting my last 2 cars calipers... ive dealt with chipping paint or dealer service people scratching them or chipping them as well.

i bet powder coating them is ultra expensive

Roborat 08-12-2012 01:08 AM

The G2 paint is suppose to chemically bond with the calipers of something of that sort so it is NOT suppose to chip or crack. Have friends who have used it without ever having it chip. We will see how it holds up for me.

whataboutbob 08-12-2012 01:26 AM

Did you do anything to prep them before painting them?

Actually quite cheap if you don't mind removing the calipers from the car.

eriktherod 08-12-2012 03:06 AM

Reminds me I have some G2 paint laying around... I need to get on this!

How does the red match with Firestorm? That was my only concern is that it would be an off-red compared to the car itself.

LivingLegend 08-12-2012 05:46 AM

Nice! Did you have to remove the caliper to paint it?

Roborat 08-12-2012 12:49 PM

The kit comes with caliper cleaner. I first scrubbed them with water, then I used the caliper cleaner. Make sure the cleaner doesn't get on any of the rubber parts of the caliper. I taped off the rubber parts. The cool thing about this kit is you can paint them on the car which I did. However, I bought a couple extra really small paint brushes to get the small areas without getting paint on the brake pad. The red actually matches really well.

Meh..... IMHO. I would rather keep the ugly little brakes hidden than try to make them stand out.

It reminds me of kids with Honda Civics painting their drum brakes red.

I don't scan forums. I use the "new posts" button. Chill out though man. It's just my opinion.

Members that are here to flame threads will eventually dilapidate the population of valid contributing members. It is a free country and members like me served so you can have that freedom to troll, so enjoy it. Those freedoms have been paid for by others even before I.

hahaha this is classic, especially with that avatar.

I thought about painting my calipers too, but for some reason they look extra small after the paint job.

jeffsides 10-01-2012 01:03 PM

Time consuming for sure. Not too bad though. Half day job

Luke.Cariveau 10-01-2012 05:48 PM

Yea, I enjoy the small accents that change the cars look pretty dramatically!
I'll have to do this mod soon =D

TIE Pilot 10-01-2012 07:28 PM

My WRB STI with red calipers looked great. Especially with Subaru stenciled on them.

Where'd you get those 86 center caps?! very nice.

Kochinopride 11-14-2012 06:07 PM

I don't plan on getting BBKs until early next year, so I may have the shop do this for me... Just to have some damned Contrast!

PNW FRS 11-14-2012 09:53 PM

Another option... Caliper covers

Let's be honest, we would do fake calipers on our cars if we could get away with it... Problem is we can easily spot something like that and label it "cheap" or "cheesy" and disapprove. If I can tell, so can everyone else... sucks, but that's life.
