The Toyota version looks coherent, even if being a bit derivative. I'm not sure the nose (length) matches up with the spy shots though.

We're the Toyota one real, it's way better than the ugly BRZ grill

I agree that the 86 will be prettier. I just can't fall in love with smiley grilles. Its my only issue with the ND miata and BRZ.

I hope the GR86 will look like the render. The BRZ front just doesn't work well with the rest of the car.

I feel like it works with the miata since it is small/"cute". The new BRZ looks like a demented mutant.

I have no issue with the BRZ grill. It are the two gapping weid shaped holes on either side of it.
I also could live with the side areo as it looks in the render. It is smaller and has a gentle swooping line not the abruptly upswept running board it is in reality. That whole front fender is much more subdued and subtle than the real thing actually.

I think the front on this one is a tad more accurate since it was made from the prototype pics.

It's not just that it's "smiley." It's incoherent and doesn't quite match the rear of the car. The Toyota version, on the other hand, seems like it might be far more coherent.

Why are the wheel air intakes shaped like an elongated sigma? Why such a pronounced loop? And why do the handles of those loops extend so far into the bumper? Is there any argument for function over form? I understand how having lines that are “too clean” can appear stale and lifeless. But I do not understand how the Japanese designers think that throwing on patches of black clutter improve the look. Perhaps if the black outlines were body colored it would seem less obtrusive.
