From the video above, depicting how the car revs and sounds in 2nd from low revs, how does that seem to gen 1 owners?

It seems good to me, it sounds nice and revs pretty quick.

Although it is 2.4L 4 cylinder imho it revs better than our cars and seems to pull stronger!

Here is my quick and dirty attempt in Paint to clean up the side vents at the front. I think you could keep them, but just remove all the crappy black plastic around them which reduces their visual bulk and makes the front more tidy. Still looks like the BRZ is crying tho.

And the other thing that bothers me is the front grill, I think it is a tad too short and makes the nose look droopy. So here it is enlarged a little. Maybe I just prefer it because it then resembles the gen 1 BRZ a little more. Hmm:

Performed some pixel math on the high-res photos available on the press release site. I was getting 3.8-4.0 inch spacing (5x100 / 3.94 Inch) depending on what I used as a reference point (outside tire diameter, rotor size - I estimated same as current car).

My crappy paint attempt aside, I really think the problem for me, with those front side vents, is the thick black plastic surrounds are too much. Even just painting them body colour would help them blend in and look less awkward. Obviously Subaru are really proud of their vents and so want to exaggerate their size, but it makes the front view really messy. Too much cheap black plastic everywhere.

other members were saying that much of subaru's other vehicles are 5x114.3, so there was some speculation that the brz was going to be updated to the same standard to simplify their production chain in terms of wheel bearings and brake rotors.

either method would make sense, many of us are just sitting back and waiting for confirmation.

Now it just looks like it has been to prison!

Just noticed they did away with the fender things that looked like vents.

Ya they replaced them with real vents.

With over 30lbft on the 2.0l it should pull stronger though right?

I wanted to live with it a few days before posting my thoughts. Then I couldn't be bothered to post my 21page essay and just will post:

It has as many problems, critique and challenges as the 1st gen(s) had. It will have the same battle in the comments. It still doesn't meet my expectations or desires... And yet.
AND YET.

I'll be happy if it performs well and makes it through a few yrs without major recalls

Yep, I want to see what issues and recalls come up in the first 2 years or so on sale. Once buyers start putting lots of miles on their cars, the issues will be identified and hopefully fixed over the course of succeeding production years.

Still, kudos to the early adopters, they are doing a vital service by helping justify the production of any new model. They do get the benefit of enjoying the car before the rest of us as well. Tradeoffs.

Which is why I'll probably buy the Toyota. I trust their dealer network more. They stood by my frs all the way.
