Front grill opinion...

I really don’t get why people are so opinionated about the front grill... as shown it it similar to many other sports cars and seems fine to me.

Personally the only grills I spend time on studying are on highway patrol cars so I can spot them in my rear view mirror!

It seems incredible that we finally get functional vents (fake vents being a pet peeve of mine) and now some complain about the shape?

Remember: it could have come out looking like the new Supra!:scared0016:

I see more of these guys since the front end design (just like the back) is not all that unique.

I would say its just the joker taking a knife to the current BRZ and saying to it
"Lets put a smile on that face of yours....."

Those upraised smiley faces are not coincidence nor lazy designers just copying a look. I am far from an expert on the subject but since the same sort of lines are followed on so many upscale cars I would say it is probably far more to do with efficient aerodynamics than appearance.
Hell even Tesla with no grill has the same sort of lines.

The cars are all just smiling because they can cut through the air better.

Not a fan of the new Supra. But just on pictures, the Supra is MUCH more aesthetically appealing than the new BRZ. Stylistically, MASSIVE fail. But only my opinion and I don’t have to buy one. Which I won’t. But it did do me a favor. It made me very happy that I bought a performance package car new in 2017. Absolutely love the aesthetics of that car and even more so since the reveal of the 2022 BRZ.

Do you see the irony in this?

nextcar 11-22-2020 12:07 PM

Irony is my middle name...;)

Although I am not impressed with the Supra’s look, my complaint is with the fake vents more than the looks.

BTW I don’t like the fake vents (front and side) on my 2013!

And some of us don't like the looks of the real vents. Not the fact that they are vents but that they are ugly as hell in application.
Can't condemn us for having an opinion while expressing your opinion!

Hahaha too much irony in my life sometimes too brother. Yeah I don’t like the fake vents on the Supra either. I really do like the overall shape though. It could have been great with cleaner details.
The new BRZ could have been great too. It’s a shame the original designers were not retained to design this second gen. With their passion for the first one, this one could have been really cool. Oh well.
🤞🏼for the mid-cycle refreshes of both...

the biggest issue for me with the fake vents on the Zupra is the door. it looks like someone stuck a boomerang onto it.

So what did you want to them to do? Give you a factory installed meth injection system? Adding port injection is the perfect solution.

Um, but it works. And it was Toyota's solution (D4S) and a pretty elegant one. Why bag it if it works? They are giving you the benefits of DI without the downsides (carbon buildup). Sorry, I don't get the hate.

Having two injection systems is way too complicated for my money, but if it works, and it's not related to any engine problems, then it's hard to argue against it. But if you are installing oil catch cans and doing periodic walnut blasting of your valves, then I would say no to it. (EDIT: Has any other OEM tried this "solution" for carbon build-up?)

I'm not an expert on the boxer 4-cyl. engine (or on anything else), but my understanding is that with DI you get carbon build-up and a fuel delivery system running at higher pressures in order to achieve an emissions standard. Okay, fine. On a 2.0 inline-4, Honda was able to use VTEC and port injection to produce an LEV powertrain that made 240 hp. I'll take the inline-4 if anyone is offering it — simpler is better.

NOTE: Not trying to start a fight with anyone. I love the FR-S/BRZ, and I'm here to learn from you guys.

This system has worked pretty effectively on the FA20 since the 2013 model year. Aside from "noise" from the DI fuel pump, it has been fairly trouble free. Further, Toyota is using it on some of their newer I4 engines. The benefit is reduced carbon build up and more power at higher RPMs.

I think the experience of EXPENSIVE decarbonization on earlier VW, BMW and MB direct injection engines has shown the worth of the D4S system. On the FA24, this is a no brainer given high power peak (7000 rppm) high redline (7400 rpm) and high compression (13.5:1)

Hyperbole much? Hardly a condemnation to say I don’t understand the strong opinions - nor did I say that anyone can’t express their opinion...

It just seems that a mountain is being made out of a mole hill. And I, for one, reserve final judgment until I see it in person. Even though I don’t care for the Supra, my opinion improved when I saw it in person. Still not impressed.

“Ugly as hell”; nope, just not my cup of tea. Too much hate on the new car for me. I’m glad it exists!

Willpower 11-22-2020 02:18 PM

I need to add im totally glad the new car exists, and I hope it sells like hot cakes, even if it ain’t my cup of tea. I got my old one, so I’m good. It’s great to be able to come on here with other car enthusiasts, and hear the thoughts and opinions of others. I really enjoy hearing what all of you guys think, and your humor too.
Hey to all you other clowns like me on here, Happy Holidays!! Hope you guys and gals all have a safe, healthy, and wonderful holiday season!
