Brake Pads for track use

Hi all,

I've been using my stock brake pads in my Brembos for the past 6 track days (I've also put in RBF 600 brake fluid for the track).

Question: how do I know when I need to get new brake pads and do you have any suggestions for any brands that work well in the Brembos and are good for track use?

Thanks.

Guarantee you're fine on good off-the-shelf parts store DOT4 or DOT5.1 fluid.

For track pads, I've used Carbotech XP8 and XP10 in my other cars with good success, quite streetable IMO.

In the BRZ I've used these pads:
Winmax W5, which are great at the track but NOISY! Remarkably so even for a track pad.
Project Mu CR, which were OK but for me a bit modest in initial coefficient of friction particularly when cold.
CSG Spec C2 which I ran this year, love them, great bite, great when cold, not too noise or too dusty, streetable. I'll run them next year as well. Only downside is $$$. For me, worth it.

This was my experience with XP10’s.

ENDLESS MX72+ / CCRG.
Make sure you use aggressive enough rotors.
Noisy but good AF.
Match with Stoptech Slotted rotors / DBA T3 4000/5000 and your'e golden.

I'll look into these - also wondering how many track days do you think any of these would last? I think I would prefer durability over performance as I am still learning and new to track driving.

If you can still use the stock pads with the brembo's and do not want to keep swapping out brake pads, take a look at a hybrid pad like the Ferodo DS2500. No braking noise on street and better stopping with less fade from heat.

Winmax W5 fronts lasted 10 track days, ~10 track hours, could do at least another day.

The Project Mu CRs did 6 track days (~6 hours), also could do at least another day but shorter-lived.

So far I've done 7 track days on the CSG C2, I'd say they've got at least another 5 in them, maybe more.

Carbotechs always lasted at least a season (~8-10 track days) for me, XP8 or XP10

A really good pad I've been using is Powerstop Track Day pads. Quiet and decent on the street. I've had 3 instructors drive the car and all 3 commented on the good brake feel. I know the CSG pads are really good I may try some next time. More expensive but guys are getting a lot of sessions out of em.
