any reports yet on how expensive those multi-gates are to repair? the body shop guy's i last talked to wear fearful on just repairing them...

@Spuds beat me to it. I bet it just gets tapped, and it's beyond repair.

Remove and replace, $5k.

Leave it up while you drive?

the main 'problem' area is that if one were to leave a trailer hitch installed, the step will impact it when it drops. so it's extremely simple to damage a very expensive part

Perfect. I see no problem here.

That should be out further than the hitch. (Depending on the hitch I guess..)

Is it faster than the non-turbo diesel Hummer I drove in Iraq that was really heavy with all that stupid "armor and gun and bullets"?

For those who don't know...armor and guns weigh a lot; that is why even though we all WANT machine guns under our headlights, we don't actually put them there...

Also, it is incredibly tough to get that sweet 50/50 weight distribution with machine guns in the front and of course having one mounted on your roof that you use through the sunroof really increases your drag coefficient.

Anyway, this looks pretty cool, but the one i drove back in the day kept me safe and got me home, so even though it was slow and not very agile...it would be filling some pretty big shoes.

that could be. i'm just saying the ones on gmc's fullsize trucks only clear the bumper by about 2-3". a typical trailer ball sticks out 6-8" depending on hitch ball design, or about 24" if you're walking anywhere near the back of a truck and already punched your lottery ticket for the day.

Some of the early rejected design sketches.

I'm thinking Range Rover. That is, a status vehicle for urban exploration.

It would be fine with the right mods.

Yea, on the standard truck it would be very possible to bang it against the tow hitch, according the the one person I know that owns one.

I keep asking about required energy, Just for arguments sake: half of the cars on the road were electric and need charging. Half of the energy now supplied by gas. this is a lot of energy. Now that must be suppled by the grid. California is already having delivery problems. New infrastructure and generation will be needed. Can not build new coal plants will not allow nuclear. I do not think we can import the needed KW, what are they going to do?
