Using Ecutek to flash OFT maps

Hi everyone, I have an Ecutek and wish to use the Ecutek to flash OFT maps. My car currently has an Ecutek tune. Based on my searches on this forum I still have several questions.

Is this even possible? I've heard conflicting answers ranging from no you can't, to yes but the oft maps differ or are missing some data.

If I am able to flash OFT maps using Ecutek will my Ecutek licence still remain intact once I flash the OFT maps?

Thanks in advance any help is appreciated.

Putting aside the ethical dilemma of not paying for the OFT product yet using their maps...

Yes it's theoretically possible for maps that are the same between racerom and stock ecu software. If there are slight differences like size, you should be able to find a way to interpolate/translate.

No it's not easy. See the need for interpolation and translation.

I don't see why changing the maps would take away your ecutek license, but I have never used ecutek myself.

There's a pretty good write up somewhere in the tuning section of the forum. Has a lot of info on where the differences are from an architecture and infrastructure perspective. You can use that to ask more precise questions.

I am guessing a tuner could reverse engineer an OTS tune but I would not attempt it. Your probably gonna brick your ECU.

Interesting you mention this. By the name, "Open Flash Tablet", I always had the impression that the founder wanted tunes to be "open source". They don't lock them, so you can start with a base and tweak at will. Looking at their page, it doesn't appear to be truly open source. They want your device serial # and its clear you are expected to only use them with their device.

So, they are "open" in the sense that they aren't locked and uneditable. But they arent "open" as in open source, free to download software.
