86 GT vs BRZ Pricing
 

Hi Everyone - Considering either one of these vehicles a second car and replacement for my Porsche 944 track car.

Leaning towards the BRZ due to the Brembo's.

Can't understand why the 2020 Toyota 86 GT are approx. $5k higher than a better equipped BRZ Tech RS with Brembo's and Sach's dampers.

Am I missing something?

They cost more just simply because they are Toyotas. There really is no other answer for it.

Take the BRZ with the Brembo :)

The Subaru BRZ with PP (RS here in Canada) is a much better "bang for the buck" package.
Go for the Brembos!!

But does that really make sense? Historically the Subaru BRZ has been the most expensive of the vaious FT86 nameplates.

Only when they were against Scions.
When the Toyota badge went on the 86 took the lead in price.
A base 86 here is $30,000 and a base BRZ is $28,000. Been that way since 2017.

well duh. everyone knows toyota's are most reliable. scion was a newish brand that had an unknown reliability!

Until you visit the parts counter where identical parts are 50%+ more expensive from Subi than at Yota.

Brembos are great if you track a bunch. Otherwise it's bling that limits your wheel options. The Sachs are a nice addition though. Not knocking brembos but I bet most people get them and never actually need the extra heat capacity over standard brakes.


I found that rather confusing. I needed guide pin bushings and ordered from Toyota, then found them at a Subaru dealer in stock. Same part, $3 at Toyota, nearly $10 at Subaru. :lol:

Yup '17+ 86's are pretty much a ripoff compared to the brz for value. The FRS/Toyota even cheaped out on small things like trunk lid liner

I've found most parts are actually cheaper at subaru than toyota, and subaru is much more likely to have them in stock.

I'm not in Canada but subaru is usually cheaper by a good bit and the parts counter guy seems to know more.

To be fair, I am only comparing Budd's Subaru (in Oakville) to both Dixie Toyota (Mississauga) and Burlington Toyota. These are my most convenient locations.
Other regions may vary.
