tripping out over warning lights

So.. last night hit the dragway at the creek 9/8/12.
All was well, went up against a pulsar, whatever.
As I went over 140km/h the engine light, battery light, handbrake light and abs/traction slip light all illuminated and beeped once for 5 seconds then went away..(was still over 140 but put it into neutral..)

Is that normal? Anyone read something about it or know anything?

Thanks in advance.

That's strange. I thought I read somewhere there's a speed limiter. At maybe 180km/h. But I'm guessing. I pull both the airbag and main ABS fuses when I race. But I'm yet to top 140.

Anyway, who cares about warning lights...did you beat the pulsar? :-P

Haha it's a pulsar.. indeed :)
However engine disabled/ wouldn't let me accelerate again till it got under 140.. gotta find the fuse to pull out to disable that.. owners book comes in handy once

Speed limited to 140 km/h by factory? That can't be right.

Why???

The top speed limit in all of Australia is 130km/h...

mikedsilva 08-11-2012 07:38 AM

hmmmm... might have to take the car out and try it.
What gear were you in?
You didn't just hit the rpm limiter did you?

Nardi330 08-11-2012 08:06 AM

Never thought when u hit speed limiter, warming lights come on....

JiB 08-11-2012 08:41 AM

140 hey... sounds like a challenge

86drift 08-11-2012 08:45 AM

Haha. How many people are now going to try and hit 150 just to see if they can :)

All those lights came on and I couldn't accelerate anymore, like the engine slugged down.. put in neutral, slowed down, into 6th and lights went off and all to normal.. I checked out everything, nothing loose, oil was fine, no burning smells.. first assumption was speed limiter tho..

Just because legal limit is 130 doesn't mean you'll never 'need' to go above 140! Had a situation just today where I had to accelerate to 130 to give way to an ambulanc?

Edit - Just realised I had taken the test drive up to 160 in 4th or 5th gear. As it was a GT I struggled to read the speedo and didn't realise how fast I was going! Even sales rep was enjoying the purr of the boxer as I was almost redlining engine through every single gear.

Off topic - Saw some of the dumbest driving behaviour today on the motorway. Ambulance coming pretty fast seemed to be doing 130 - 140ish. I had 3 other cars behind me and then the ambulance. I moved to left lane soon as I saw it in my mirror. Most of the other cars followed the suit as ambulance got closer. The car that was right behind me in the right most lane took nearly 2-3 full minutes to realise and respond to the ambulance emergency lights! Even then she wouldn't accelerate so that she can change her lane and the car behind me in the left lane wouldn't give her room to change lanes! I had to slow down so that she could move in front of me! I just found it ridiculous because in my opinion that 2-3 minutes could mean life or death for someone.
