Exactly! That's why I'm planning to trade the the CX-5 for a GR86/BRZ. Definitely want to get back to driving something exciting.

That's nothing, recall the Zupra's timeline

The van craze never really went away. They just started mating with smaller cars and over time evolved into minivans, then SUVs, then crossovers. It's known as "survival of the fiscalist", you have to sell to survive.

The Supra was in a press display tent for more than weeks?

Car was teased and "unveiled" under camoflauge almost every week for a couple months straight.

There's been 1 set of teaser images and then the tent at that show a few days later. It's been like 1.5-2wks?

They said unveiling this fall, which is about now... so probably within the next few weeks for anything else.

Thanks.

It has been 15 days since those pictures posted.

But then I look at the TRD SE with the PS4S tires and the same recommended EPA mileage as the base cars with the primacys.

The BRZ tS drop in mileage makes sense with the massive wing. This leads me to believe it's a bit more about shaving a few dollars from the base price than it is about the tire. I know you work with OEM suppliers so you can imagine the penny pinching. Toyota can force prices down with volumes but there's still some cost discrepancies, no?

Like always we're probably over thinking it. The truth probably lies between all our guesses.

I really don't have a problem with the primacys, they're fine for what they are, OEM tires to be eventually replaced with something a lot more aggressive.

And you can pretty much close your eyes on the Tire Rack site and point to any other replacement Summer/Performance All Season tire and it will be better than the Primacys. [emoji28][emoji28]
I agree that they are decent tires, and when you replace them it feels like an upgrade. It would have been nice if they had chosen something like a Conti ExtremeContact or Bridgestone Potenzas instead of the Primacy. Those would be cost effective but offer better performance. But like you said Toyota probably had a good deal with Michelin.

Toyota "officially" acknowledge it with full on camo for Goodwood Festival of Speed on 7/5/18.

https://twitter.com/toyota_europe/st...57311196762112

The unveiling didn't take place until 1/14/19; almost 6 and half months later.

Like TylerLieberman said, Subaru said Fall is the unveiling date. Simple Google search says the Fall season run from Tuesday, September 22 to Monday, December 21.

And yes, they also had it was under a tent, but no veil.

Bull
There is nothing wrong with the Primacy tire. Many of the "better" tires are pure trash for a daily driver. They were not picked for price. They were plain and simple the best pick for mileage. It really is as simple as that.

Well, we have seen camo versions of the new 86. Not necessarily on display, but in testing. I wouldn’t expect the next 86 would get the same red carpet and build-up, as the Supra. Just here, look.

I didn’t expect them to make a tent with the car in the tent just sitting for weeks, and the best shots we have of this teaser is some crappy phone pics. Am I missing something? Were there other pics or more officially teaser pics? Maybe they are setting up for some big display, but it just seems odd it would take so long, or they would need to set up now for something that was weeks or more away.

Maybe they were just setting up for pictures and for a private showing for car enthusiasts at the charity and only for the event. I thought they were setting up for an official press reveal for a camo or full car.

Camo Zupras were spotted before Goodwood as well. It's just now there is an official announcement. Why do they do this and that? Building up hype and cock teasing.

Yea we've been discussing that over on the last pages of the Cybertruck thread.

Short version for me, do want, can't justify.

Mustang Mach e says hello.

I guess we’ll all be driving SUVs eventually. It will be too dangerous to have cars that sit low to the ground.

But those low sitting cars will have a distinct advantage in traffic in that they can drive right under those SUVs!

My recollection is I saw a quote from (I think) Tada-san stating the Primacies were used to make the car more "fun" to drive. IOW because the car could more easily overpower them. If true, this suggests the decision on the primacies was based on the fact they are a lousy tire (wrt to traction). :iono:

So because my winter tires can spin easily on pavement, they're a lousy tire?
Just offering a different perspective, but outright grip isn't the only measure of a tire's viability or effective purpose.

I realize this is the Subaru post but whatever.

This story ad just came up in Instagram. Sadly it only opens to the @TOYOTA Instagram page but I usually get a lot of Toyota ads and this is the first I’ve seen with an 86...

If Subaru really does plan to unveil the next gen BRZ “this fall” (in the next month maybe?) then I wonder if this is a teaser ad for Toyota unveiling the GR86 as well.

I have Instagram but I'm not an expert, so correct me if I'm wrong. That looks like an ad you would see while flipping through your recent "Stories" of people you follow.

I think maybe they are just doing a play on that instead of saying, "Swipe to Learn More!" The ad agency probably has a generic template that gets slapped on everything, and this is one of them. It just so happens we are close to the reveal of the new car.

While true, why would they say something like "the story continues" for a RAV4 or Corolla?

Plus that tagline is odd specifically because when you do swipe up on it it just opens their IG profile. It's just weird. Could be bad marketing, too.

But yeah causation != correlation so who knows.

Subaru is calling up several journalists to get next gen BRZ review going soon... I sent email to SoA hoping to get invited, but they're ignoring my email.

I was recently wondering how soon the reviews were going to follow the official reveal. Will they be reviewing pre-production models or the first vehicles coming off the line?

Assuming the car isn't too different, I highly doubt pre-production. Simply demos to be sold off later or given to employee for good rate.
