There’s something wrong with it. I can’t figure it out immediately, though.

What a massive disappointment.

Rear looks like it has already been in an accident. Was it so difficult to give the rear some sexy longer rear lights with a wider general stance?

The rest of the car looks like it hasn't changed too much besides an improvement to the headlights.

Interior looks like it belongs back in 1999.

All in all terrible upgrade to be to a very fun car. They have spent very little on improving the design which is a shame. Looks wise the upcoming 400z destroys this thing.

At the very least I hope for a cheap retail price and a tasty faster engine - with lower MPG too.

Opportunity missed for Toyota/Subaru imo.

I like the exterior, but I'd have to see both gens side by side to Ultimately decide which I like better.

Interior infotainment and climate controls looks pure Subaru parts bin stuff.
Not sure how I feel about that, I wonder what the Toyota infotainment will look like.

This keeping up with 5 threads is going to get exhausting!

From the side the front of the car and the rear of the car look like they were designed by different people.

Do not like the running boards at all. I would have them destroyed in no time.

After all my whining about fake vents I am not impressed by the size and shape of the real vents on the front. Be great for track and totally suck for the daily driving I do for much of the year. And they are as ugly as sin.

Generic tail lights like every other Subaru (and most other cars) YAWN.

Trunk lid lip is nice.

They finally got rid of that damned dirt collecting flat shelf on the rear bumper. Two thumbs up there.

The rest of it is … well …. meh same old same old.

Now we wait for specs.

Wow, this is... different to what I expected. Not gonna lie, initial reaction is it looks awkward. I'm getting a big Lexus RC350 vibe for some reason in the overall shape and curves.

It could be worse... I had feared they would stick the infotainment screen on top of the dash like an afterthought. But this is properly situated below the air vents, which I think will age better.

To be frank, the gen 1 is a better looker. Sleeker, cleaner, sharper. This one looks softer, rounder, less focused. Maybe it will grow on me, especially in other colours and with a bit of lowering.

Now, about that engine... ;)

Wait for the 4 new threads on the subject to pop up!

This for me has been the problem since these cars first hit the market. I honestly assumed they would remedy this but it appears that this 2nd generation was a cost cutting exercise which is understandable. What is sad is that fixing the lines of this car would not have cost much imo.

In 2030 the UK outlaws the sale of new petrol engines cars. For this car to capture my heart - it had to look a lot better than this.

Ghost of Akina 11-18-2020 09:39 AM

If that’s it, got to say disappointed!

The FRS/pre facelift 86/BRZ lines flowed from the splitter at the bottom of the front bumper up through the hood and all the way to the rear in an unbroken line. The 17+ 86 messed with those lines in the bumper but they still flowed from the hood back.
This has no flow at all with lines taking off in any direction. More industrial less organic looking.

WolfpackS2k 11-18-2020 09:54 AM

I don't like it. It looks fat and swollen.

Now, if the reason for that is to fit an intercooler under the unnecessarily tall hood, okay I will forgive them. But if not? Come on, which intern designed this crap?

wbradley 11-18-2020 09:58 AM

Just remember, Subaru has NEVER been known for their looks or forward designs. Wait until the car is driven.

The gen 1 cars should hold value if the prevalent opinions here carry through to the public once everything is revealed.

I for one am not in a position to remove all my bolt-ons as the cost to build another car with similar performance and personalization is now prohibitive. On the other hand I am looking really forward to hearing more. Also, as I am just buying my 2018 STI off lease, most likely a trade for a 2022 STI will be in the sightlines. (the 400 HP clickbait lie. LOL)

Jfheisenberg 11-18-2020 09:58 AM

Not a fan of the front and rear changes. The rear has a lot going on and tail lights remind me of the new civic. The side view still looks good, just need more low and bigger wheels. First gen looks cleaner and sexier imo.

Personally, i like the new interior changes but they did crew up the new dash. Subaru had the chance to make a digital dash like the new 400z! .

Wanted to like this car dang!! maybe it’ll grow on me in person
