What do you think of the postage stamp display? [emoji28] I guess the idea was that you can keep your eyes on the rearview mirror, but if the display is too small it won’t help much.

Subaru uses a different Hu.

The mirror display is useless. It is too small to actually see anything but still manages to take up half the mirror so you can't use it properly either.

It sounds like maybe Toyota didn’t want to match what Subaru is doing with the HU. Just another quirk of the twins. Lol

Ugh, so it’s the worst of both worlds. A good BU camera is really helpful with the twins, even though rear visibility is decent.

They have always used different HUs. For a while in the Scion days we even had different HUs in the Canadian FRS than in the US ones.

I would be totally pissed by this, and it would be my own fault because I doubt I would test the HU when buying the car. I definitely wouldn't have paired my phone to it and done a test call.

I guess I will moving forward!

Yeah that’s one of the areas Toyota really drops the ball sometimes, the infotainment. It would be nice to have Apple CarPlay, but not at the expense of being able to hear it! They get so much right, I like that they usually stick with time tested designs. But technology moves so quickly.
Even the HU in my 2016 has all sorts of connection issues. I consider it another “feature” of my car. [emoji1] I’m just glad my phone can even connect to it.

Here's a not hot take: The Toyota version will be 100% identical to the Subaru. What we've seen so far is the Subaru-designed BRZ. Headlights, bumpers, infotainment, safety systems, all of it identical. So Toyota isn't taking lead because Subaru wants people to know it is their car they designed, developed, and tuned.

Ah, it makes sense now.

This is pretty much what ichi told us 6 months ago.
Although there will no doubt be some differences between the two but Toyota just hasn't got around to talking about them yet.

Given how similar the facelift gen 1 cars are I imagine the differences will be Cosmetic. Bumper skin, colors, head unit.

Unless Toyota hates the spring rates Subaru is using and wants the chassis handling tuned differently.

Oh I bet it is purely cosmetic. Each will just be looking to have the common design cues from the rest of their lineup and that will be about it.
Neither really have the passion that drove the first gen anymore and it is my guess that they will make enough of the new ones to fulfill the contractual obligations and then just drop the whole thing.
If they do go the other way and make the things for mass sales appeal then few here will be interested anyway.
