Yeah. BTW Tcoat, did you replace yours?

Not yet. Haven't decided what to go with yet. It will be done in spring with something though.

Let me know. I am very interested, but don't want to mess with it until someone else has done it. Are you Android Auto or Apple CarPlay?

I am happy enough with the sound quality of my 2015 FR-S. My two great wishes are to get the built in amp operational, and route the BU camera to the headunit instead of the mirror.

What's up with your HU?

I would probably be happy if I could get the door speakers separated from the dash and amped like they should be as well really. I think that using the woofers unamped is most of the issue..
I have Apple

The one in the Hakone bypasses the amp and powers the door speakers with the dash ones. It sounds like total crap.

Huh really?! I wonder if my tS is like that...I never listen to the radio really so never paid much attention.

Kind of strange why they went that route...

My BRZ sounds like crap with the amp bypassed or powered.

The BRZ has a totally different head unit that still uses the amp.
No it isn't the greatest ether but is is several units of magnitude better than what the put in the Toyota.
It is almost like they got them at a yard sale and just sort of made them work as best they can.

One option would be to swap them out. There's a good change the harness is the same.

I've never say in the Toyota, but I made an amp bypass plug, and can't notice any change between bypassed or not.

Have considered that but if I am going to go to the trouble I am going for a big improvement.

It doesn't just bypass the amp it hooks it in with the dash speakers. There is zero separation. I have heard the 2020 BRZ system and it sounds much better.

Same here regarding separating the woofers from the dash speakers and reinstating the amp. I am Android.

The 2020 model year toyota 86's swapped out the basic panasonic head unit for an Android auto/apple carplay enabled JBL one that bypasses the amp and everyone says the sound quality kind of sucks, its especially bad when paired with a phone for voice calls.
