Has anyone heard of TEI Racing Calipers??
 

Hello recently came across this brand called TEI Racing that is selling Front and rear BBK for $1400 (Calipers, Rotors, Breaks, Lines). Which seems like a great price for BBK front and rears, the only thing is that I've never heard of this company and how good/safe their kits are.

Has anyone on here heard or know if this company is trustworthy and reliable when it comes to BBK?

Chinese brakes. Don’t know anything about them or quality.

Brembo is also made in China. Difficult anymore to get things that aren't made there. As far as brakes I wouldn't want to be the guinea pig with something that hasn't been sorted out. I'd imagine though that if you could get your hands on the specs you may find they're ok.

I'm like...maybe a little bit of a snob but still one of few the things I'll actually jump in and say "don't buy that cheap shit" is for brake calipers. Since I've personally seen how bad the ultra-discount calipers can really be in use...I have to jump in and say DON'T BUY THAT CHEAP SHIT.

In 17 years at RCE, I've seen a lot of brake failures and it's never a good time. I've had one myself! And no, it's not always from cheap brake calipers. But the cheap calipers add more than a few variables to the mix that you should not have to deal with. Brakes are obviously a safety item. You just don't compromise here.

The cheap calipers like this that I've seen in person had:

• insane caliper flex. you could see easily it by eye, did not need a dial indicator.
• massive rotor runout. need a dial indicator for this, but nothing on the rotor was "flat" which is not good!
• crap brake bias. way too much front piston area.
• poor pad fitment. slight pad overhang.
• poor pad availability. no idea where to source real brake pads.

The caliper flex was very concerning and it's not hard to imagine how it could lead to a failure. It was ridiculous.

If you want better braking performance, there are more and less expensive ways to go that are reliable.

I'm curious about caliper flex and how it's tested. You mention it can be seen by eye. Does that imply the car is at rest and brake pedal is pushed hard and flex can be seen?? Is this the standard way flex is checked?? I would assume rotor movement would play into this somewhere but I'm not sure. There's also alignment of caliper to rotor and mounting points.

Any chance you might share a bit on the ins and outs??

With a little searching, looks like they've only really been seen on sponsored vehicles. They have a facebook page on which you could probably ask all the big questions and decide for yourself. But to avoid any headaches, I would listen to Andrew and not experiment with cheap brakes.
