Rear ride height vs. toe relationship
 

Quick question for any of the DIY alignment guys as I'm not near the car right now to check myself.

I currently have zero toe all around, and am looking to dial in some rear rake at the track to avoid the aero compressing the back end as much as it is.

I would also like to get some rear toe in to help turn in.

If I dial in some additional rear ride height, will that make the rear toe in or toe out? The toe arm is on the front of the rear knuckle, and I would think that as the car lowers, the car would toe out, and when the car raises, the car would toe in. Is that correct?

Waitaminute...

The only way that aero would be giving any kind of significant compression at the back of the car at speed is if you have a big rear wing. Which if you do, should be able to adjust that. Unless you have a yuge wind-tunnel developed undertray and diffuser?


More rear toe-in will hurt turn-in, not help it. If you want better turn-in, run zero rear toe and perhaps try a smidge of front toe-out.

better turn in .. at cost of less stability and more nervous car. Everything is compromise, and in my eyes such better turn-in via such front and rear toe adjustments would do more harm then gain.
as for countering suspension compression with heavy aero mods, and as they often are also alongside grippier tires .. i'd think of overall stiffer springrates, instead of trying to counter with alignment hacks that may hurt at other handling aspects.

By my measure it toes out as you raise it, but it's very very small across the regular ride height range, assuming you're lower than stock by not a crazy amount (2+") you should be able to raise the rear a reasonable amount without creating excessive toe out.
