mishimoto fans?? High temps
List of cooling mods before
Mishimoto oil cooler Mishimoto double width radiator Stock fans So the stack is Inter cooler Oil cooler Ac condenser Mishimoto radiator Stock fans My stock fan died so I had to get new fans. I purchased and installed the mishimoto fans with the shroud and now my engine overheats regularly. It doesn't matter if I'm going up the highway or cruising in the city. Before the installation the stock fans were able to keep up. Is this air in the radiator or a problem with the fans. I probably need to move the oil cooler off to the side of the stack so it's not affecting the radiator temps |
Honestly the aftermarket slim fans are normally trash.
In this region we've seen multiple guys try the "high performance" fans that end up performing worse than stock. Of course I think the GCC spec fans are higher flowing than normal. See if you can pick up a set of stock ones from a junker? |
So today I moved the oil cooler off to the right of the radiator. On the drive I did which is all a slight uphill I noticed that my coolant temps are still 105C and climbing but thats where I cut it. My oil temps are now solid good. around 88C - 95C.
I have 3 theories on what it might be. Theory 1. My air filter blew up a couple days ago and fuel trims are turned off so it might be running slightly lean. Under cruise my target AFR is 12.7 and my actual AFR is 12.7 but under load my target AFR is 12.5 and my actual AFR is 12.85. Im not sure if that is enough to dump alot of heat in the coolant? Theory 2. Not to sure about this one, but I wonder if I have an exhaust leak. Like I said the fuel trims are turned off so it shouldn't affect fueling but it might be dumping hot exhaust into the engine bay. It might heat the oil as well so im not too sure on this idea. Theory 3. I might have not bled my radiator correctly and it might still have air in it. I ran the car for 30 mins. 2 times with the radiator cap off on a slight incline to try and push the air out the radiator cap. I'm not sure if that got all of the air out when I filled it. If you have any other ideas let me know. |

I would but I just purchased and installed the mishimoto fans and with the turbo sitting right there its an absolute pain plus my stock fans were all melted from the turbo manifold so having a metal shroud might be more reliable but I do agree with you that the stock fans could push more air. I don't really think the fans are the immediate issue anyway. While going up the freeway at 65mph to 70 mph the temperatures still climb. The wind speed should be enough to push through even if the fans didn't create much vacuum on the back side. That's why i believe its something else. I did just refill my radiator and there is a good possibility that there is air in it that i'm just not able to get out. |

This time I admit Im an idiot.
When I wired up the mishimoto fans because they were different connectors I had to cut crimp and heat shrink. I wired one fan backwards. While I was heat wrapping my exhaust manifold I decided to double check but placing paper infront of it and one was pushing not pulling. Fixed the wiring and now it's perfectly cool again. |

The connectors were different than stock so I had to cut and crimp new connectors on. So still my fault.
I think the intercooler slows the air enough plus there is a fan shroud so it's just sitting there mixing the air in the engine bay without pulling anything through the radiator probably. |
I had cooling issues in the summer and on track for a while until i finally got rid of my mishimoto fans and replaced with spal fans. night and day difference, no longer have any issues.
