Throttle spacers for heel toe opinion...
 

Hi all, new brz owner here. I find this car hard to heel toe, i'm coming from previous cars that have large spacing for my right foot to do swing my right foot sideways for "heel & toe'.

The brz i found to be very tight, so I'm using more of the 'pinky toe & big toe" technique. Do you guys find the throttle spacer help? Since it bring the gas pedal closer to you so the gas and brake are more in same plane.

Just want to get some owners' opinion on the usefulness of the throttle spacers, thx all

huh. Huge clown shoes?? Totally fine for me, and I have had tons of manual trans cars in the past. Probably at least 25 years since I've owned an automatic.

You can adjust the clutch pedal for height and the clutch pedal for free play. If either of those is off, it might make it harder to drive.

People also talk about changing the clutch spring with an aftermarket one thats lighter??

I had no problem heel toeing with stock pedal however, I have the cusco pedal which makes heel toeing easier. It’s wider and adds about 1/4” thickness.

I use the Cusco Sports Accelerator Pedal.


However, pedal overlays and spacers tend to cater to the problem of difficulty reaching. It seems like you have the opposite problem, which is to say they already seem too close together for you. Most of the options you mentioned would perhaps make the problem worse?


If there is a spacer that allows you the option to increase the lateral spacing between the brake and accelerator, maybe that can help

Since i can't create more space for the gas pedal, i will have to change the way i heel toe. And bringing the gas pedal closer to me and having it line up with the brake pedal should help.

I have size 8.5 wide feet and the Verus throttle pedal spacer. Bringing the throttle pedal in line with the same plane with the brake pedal is a good thing - I can easily heel-toe during regular driving without having to brake hard.

But it shifting the throttle pedal to the left closer to the brake pedal is a bad thing. If your shoes have a wide sole you might clip the throttle with the side of your shoe when stepping in the brakes. So I need to be very picky on the shoes I can wear while driving.

Even with this setup, because of my small feet I can only do the heel-toe method where I turn my heel up to hit the throttle. If I do the method of rolling the ball of my foot to side step the throttle, I slip off the side of the brake pedal. So I can't brake firmly.

I find the Gas pedal is perfect once you go Panic mode on the brake!




Shoes size 9. I prefer loafers or running shoes with a narrower sole.
I find the stock Pedal set up just right on the BRZ. But then my other car has the worse clutch feel and gas delivery I ever drove.

Some one was just asking me about how I do this last week as he is finding out he needs it in his toolbox to be efficient for track days, he is triing a Cusco pedal this week..

Been using this technique since 1980. I always though my method was somewhat off but it works for me. I don’t track(yet) I don’t think about it when I need it, In every day traffic or driving not much use unless I wanna show-off in town. Come into its own with out a thought once the aggressive driver in me gets released on Offramps & real roads.

I seem to use bottom part of the arch and very bit of the heal as lever on the brake & ball for the foot below the toes. Gas pedal feels way lower on the initial touch but with brake aggressively half way down gas becomes much higher. Im using very little of the brake surface.

Side note: Due to Knee injuries in the past few months I could not perform the little twist required for thi trick. But in the past 2 weeks looks like the mobility is back, the fun returns.

The only time I heel toe is under heavy braking. That's when the pedals line up best, and when I find it appropriate to heel toe.
I imagine the pedal spacer would be nice if you're trying to heel toe while coming to a very gradual stop- see if it works for you, won't hurt anything

I’d like to give the Cusco and Verus items mentioned in this post a try but want to be able to return them without a restocking fee or shipping fee. Does anyone know of a vendor that carries these products without a restocking fee or returning shipping fee? I live near Chicago but couldn’t find anyone local that stocks these products.

If you use the Cusco pedal and Weathertech floor mats, make sure you trim the tab under the accel pedal on the floor mats.

It can catch the Cusco pedal, leading to unintended acceleration and unintended change of pants.
