Oil residue on underbody.

I was changing my oil today and snapped some pictures of the underbody where I see some oil residue. It’s close to the oil pan at the front close to the driver side. I noticed this a few months ago when I was installing aftermarket headers as well. It seems to come out of the driver side of the engine block, where top and bottom of the engine block are held together. There is some oil residue on the metal covering piece below the oil pan as well.
I drive the car quite hard but keep up with the maintenance as well. Anything to be concerned about?

Timing chain cover ?

Probably your valve cover or timing cover. Could be several things- if you drop your engine shield it's probably full of oil. I'd take it somewhere to get it looked at

Probably cam carrier leaking.

If it really bothers you, pull the shields clean well. Go to auto store barrow UV oil leak kit. Add the small vial of marker fluid and use the UV light and glasses to find the leak. It will work without cleaning but, well it shows better when clean.

Clean off and check AVCS solenoids. They are sealed with an o-ring. Mine leaked there.

Do you mean the oil pan shield(the big metal piece on the bottom)? I dropped that and it has oil on the side facing up but it wasn’t a lot. There is a thin layer with dirt stuck to it. I have some pictures from before when I was changing headers.

that looks like you drove through something! there's no air-to-oil cooler on these cars stock, so there's nothing forward of the belt assembly to oil those components!

Im I the only one that cleans their engine almost every oil change?

Breadman 08-30-2020 12:34 AM

Oil residue on underbody.

This was mine. It was the AVACs solenoid on exhaust driver side.
