Kevin's from salvaged to track FRS

Picked up this previously salvaged title 2014 FRS down in Houston, TX and brought it all the way to Iowa. The car itself is basically stock besides some Stance Suspension coilovers and lower control arms.

Once I got it home, I swapped out the brake lines, fluids, and pads and took it for a spin around Mid-Ohio. Car felt great and was a blast to drive despite having some 500 treadwear all season tires.

Plan to turn the car into my weekend warrior track car that I can drive to and from the track.

Very nice, though I do think the FRS looks best with the spacer invaders plastic stuff in the front grille.
I painted the white hat on my crash bar using red plastidip and you actually can't tell the difference, I highly recommend if it you're going to leave it out there!

I actually ended up reinstalling the grille, but I am definitely leaning towards painting the crash beam black if I ever do remove the grille.

Lot of money to spend on some fancy lights :D

Probably won't be installing a set of headlights unless I need to do so for work.

I find the WL end links come loose easily. I would recommend some blue locktite. I have had to tighten mine twice in the last year, right front is making noise again.

Appreciate the heads up, I'll have to keep an eye on them.

Yes that would be I :D

It honestly isn't as bad as some people make it.

I'll do another video on my channel going through both sides since people complained.

Saw you had a master cylinder brace and SS lines both. Did you install those at the same time, or one at a time? How's the feel with both mods installed?

SS lines were installed first and those are where you're going to feel the most difference. I can see the master cylinder brace reduces the deflection, but I wouldn't say I could feel a huge difference. I think if you did the brace without the ss lines you would feel a more noticeable difference. Brake pedal is very firm and consistent compared to the OEM lines.

Looks much better than I would have expected..congrats.

And you have the advantage it will match the primer peeking through those nasty paint chips you'll inevitably get!

Cephas 10-28-2020 10:14 AM

My first thought was "damn those look great, but they're gonna be a bear to keep clean." Then I remembered my whole damn car is white. :bonk:

Those look reeeeeal damn nice. For whatever reason they look bigger than 17s, too. Why ceramic coat them?

Also less panning slo-mo next time plz?

Being that they're my track setup, they're going to get caked it brake dust so I want to make it as easy as possible to clean.

What kind of shots would you like to see other than the panning slo-mo shots?

Cephas 11-11-2020 12:30 PM

I don't mind the type of shot itself, but there was like a solid minute of it there. Felt like it was dragging on for a minute. Might be a good place for voice-over, though, maybe talking about the details of the wheel instead of just showing it over music.

Curious to why you chose the RE71’s. For all out grip they are top notch but for track days they don’t hold up to a whole session very well. Are you focusing on TA?

Hey, are you able to share your experience with alternatives for RE-71? If I recall, RE-71 is 200tw, correct? Curious to hear your thoughts of similar 200tw tires both on track and for street use (dry grip and the occasional rainfall). Thanks

In all honesty I got a good deal on them from a friend that wasn't using them. After I'm done with these I'm going to try the new Falken RT660s. I'm not doing TA at the moment. Going to just continue to learn throughout next year and then probably jump into it end of the year.
