Average wait time on Volks?

Just curious, those of you who have purchased Volk (or other Ray's) wheels in the past... how long did it take for them to arrive?

I'd heard six-to-eight weeks was the norm (if I ignore the "Oh, there's a set on a boat on its way here now" line from the retailer). But I purchased the damn things over two months ago at this point, and STILL have no tracking number for them. Is this common business practice for Ray's Engineering, or should I have gone to a different retailer? :iono::mad0260:

It can take a long time. 3-4 months or more could be typical

ill86 08-09-2012 06:22 PM

Who did you buy from? I always ordered from stock on hand at the warehouse. Most sellers just drop ship from there. 8 weeks is the norm for an order though. Minus delays in shipping and customs.

Depends on a lot of factors. If they aren't in stock, expect delays.

I ordered a set of TE37s for my STI in a custom color and it took 8 months.

Holy hell-monkeys, are you guys serious?!! I've owned cars for less than 8 months before!! :confused0068: :suicide:

Honestly, if I'd known this was a possibility, I would have ordered something else. I've bought SSR's and Advans, and had them at my door in a little over 1 week before, so the idea that it could take MONTHS to get something as common and popular as a CE28N never crossed my mind.

P.S. ill86, I PM'd you the name of the company I bought from. Don't see a need as of yet to drag their name into this negative thread, even though they could have been a bit more forthcoming and honest about lead times on these wheels.

It is unlikely it has anything to do with the company you purchased from. I sell a lot of Volk, Gramlights, Advan wheels. They all come from the same importer, Mackin Industries in California, who gets them from the respective brand in Japan.

Sometimes getting product is quick if they have it built already in Japan and it gets put on next container, other times it can take longer. I have been waiting over 6 months for a particular set of Advan RZ. This is usually not the case though, normally 6-10 weeks for delivery.

That being said Mackin does have a weekly USA stock list they send out. Anything on this list can ship out immediately from California. If you are interested in seeing this list PM me your email address and I can send it over. Maybe there is something you will like that you can get fast.

Thank you! Both the information and the offer to find more available wheels is a big help! :)

Keep in mind, mine were a custom order. I have the only 18x9+40 TE37s in the us that are an original Gloss Black. So I had to wait for the next TE37 production cycle, then for Volk to put together enough of a shipment to fill a container, then the actual shipping+customs, etc.. So that example is probably a statistical outlier. But you still may have to wait a couple months for wheel from Japan. It just isn't cost effective to ship small orders across the pacific.

So what CE28's did you get? The 17x9's? I have been itching to order a set of those for a 2004 STI (5x100) time attack car I play a very large part in.

Pekingduck 08-10-2012 12:32 PM

I seen all these time frame, it really depend on you model you pick and size. I waited for 2 months, 6 months, and 4 months. I wouldn't worry to much as long as you buy from a reputable vendor you should be okay. I am waiting for mine it been 1 month so far...

Actually I went with the 17x 7.5" ones, with 43 offset, since I wanted something as close to stock size as possible. Also for my driving style and purposes, I didn't need a lot of extra grip. Ordered in gold, and planning to have the lips polished as well (what's that you say? It seems like I'm making my own version of the LE-28N's? Why yes... yes it does. :D )

16 weeks to the distributor is a standard quote.

UPDATE: I'm... SOOOOO... mad... can't... see... straight!!! AAAAARGH!!!!! :mad0260::mad0260::mad0260:

So, thought FINALLY my patience was paying off, and I was FINALLY getting my wheels today, just two days shy of four months exactly.

Nope.

See, what I ordered... and paid nearly $3k for in advance... were 17x7.5 +43 GOLD CE28N's. What arrived today were 17x7.5 +33 BRONZE CE28N's. So not only are they the wrong color, but the offset is off by so much I don't even think they'd fit!

So when I called VIVID RACING up to complain (that's "Vivid Racing", as in "Vivid Racing LIED about the expected arrival date of these wheels FOUR TIMES just to get my sale, then bungled the order anyway"), the guy seemed wholly disinterested. Told me to call back tomorrow when his boss was there. THEN I got a call back from him two minutes later, telling me, "Uhh... I just checked, and +33 is as low of an offset as you can get on those wheels." No shit. So not only was he not f#@%ing listening when I told him the offset I ordered, but he was THEN trying to imply that I should just keep these wheels.

Oh HELL no!!! :mad0260:

I'm hoping to god that my order got put in correctly, and somewhere around the warehouse at either Vivid or Mackin my gold CE28N's are hanging out, and they just sent me the wrong box. Because if they actually ordered the wrong wheel to start with, and I have to wait ANOTHER three-to-nine months to get my wheels, on top of the four I've already waited? ...words cannot describe my anger. No, really, I'm pretty sure it's against forum rules and perhaps federal law to describe what state I'll be in. :mad0260:

It amazes me that people buy stuff from Vivid w/o recourse given their reputation. After 4 month you'd have to sue him to get your money back instead of a regular credit card chargeback. Good luck getting this resolved via your money back or getting proper wheels.
