Seatbelt receptacle swap (passenger to driver)

3 Attachment(s)
Hey guys,

I have Recaro bucket seats and PCI mounts in my car, I use the 3 point belts on the street. The OEM passenger seat belt receptacle fits much better than the driver side Into the seat side slot and doesn’t jab into my side (driver is much longer and angled inward).

It looked like the passenger one might just swap over to the driver side and plug in with just a connector swap. It definitely will bolt in place, wiring is the concern. Driver side wiring is 2 sold black wires. Passenger side is one black w/ white stripe and one solid grey. Passenger one goes thru the occupancy sensor wiring so I had a feeling it might not be so simple.

Well I bought some extra receptacles and swapped the driver connector To the passenger and plugged in it but no luck, light stays on with the buckle inserted. I didn’t have it bolted in place but if you guys think that’s the issue I can try just requires some work to remove my seat to swap the receptacle.

Anybody good with electrical wiring diagrams have access to the FSM diagrams help me out and see if it’s possible to make the passenger seatbelt receptacle cooperate with the driver side wiring?

Thanks!!

After having some help digging into the fsm wiring diagrams there is circuitry in the passenger receptacle vs. simple on/off on the driver so they are not interchangeable.

Update #2, driver seatbelt connector does not need to be attached, the car defaults to driver seatbelt connected so no warning light or chime!

So, I just cut the wiring off a spare passenger seat receptacle and Installed on driver side leaving the factory body wiring Harness disconnected...works!!

This is great news, I was just starting to brainstorm ways of getting the seatbelt to work better with fixed seats and this should help a lot. Do you have a good source for reasonably priced passenger buckles?

I just grabbed one off eBay, they come up from time to time. Another option is just buy one from the Toyota dealership.
