What prompts you to get a different diff cover?

I would be very wary of aftermarket covers.

The cost of the cover is larger capacity and porting to run a cooler and pump. Are you really racing that hard or just going for bling? Who is going to get down on the ground to look.

both add half a litre.

The Banks test is only for the one flatback cover and would only be valid if a curved cover had been tested. Without a control it is all conjecture. Not saying it is wrong but not proof.


(I would guess that all covers fling fluid in about the same way at high speed, cooling and "non" foaming fluid are what is desired in a hard run vehicle.)

Guys, I am not concerned about bling, just looking for a additional cooling and was just wondering if Cusco is really worth 300 more... because I don't see it, unless the Speed Factory one is really poorly made or something.

You might check you temps after a short and long run to see what the difference is. The increase in fluid (I believe) will be insignificant in rate of temp rise. If you feel you are getting wear from heat thinning fluid you are in line for the external pump, cooler and fan. Then you will need the cover with the ports.


You could glue a thermocouple to the case and see what is happening.
From most of the posts from weekend racers this has not been a problem. I am sure the pros are running coolers.

Damn that is a long time. I would run one for the piece of mind if it was me.

Ouch, it looks like they were heavily inspired by the Cusco part.

The Cusco part has significantly more fins.

It is hard to tell but the Cusco looks like the ports are drilled and tapped, while the other is hard to tell. The Cusco also has more and longer fins, but air flow is the most important factor. Both have an internal baffle to help the cooler fluid from mixing as quickly.
Pay your money take your choice.
3 hours IS a long time, your system will reach an equilibrium point long before the end. If it were me I would go with a cooler. ( actually have them on two of my cars. not the BRZ.)

Been using an ebay one for a while with no issues. Aluminum-Rear-Differential-Cover-for-FT86-GT86-Subaru-BRZ-Scion-FR-S-13-Black. Was 120$ now 130$. Looks 100% identical to cusco probably made at same production facility after hours. It’s a somewhat “basic” part so I’m not too concerned with “quality” the flat surface where gasket seals was flawless for a perfect seal. The rest of it looked perfect as well. I know how some people are with Chinese knock offs though, depending on the part/price I’m the same way. But I don’t see 800$ of value in one of these for how simple it is. 350-400$ would have been a good price point for “name” brand.

Just get one of the sickspeed ones or ebay. Its like $130 and does the same thing.
