Fuel Pump Chirp Noise Fixed on 2020 86s

Purchased a beautifully red 2020 GT 86 back in February and since then I've tacked a whopping 5k miles onto her.
I had previously owned a 2016 FRS so I was no stranger to the infamous, incessant fuel pump sound effects caused our very ethanol-y california fuel.

After a month of use, I started preparing for the shift to the summer blend fuel which really caused quite a chirp storm in my old 2016 FRS.

Amazingly enough, here in the middle of summer, I have yet to hear ANYTHING.
*knocks on wood*
I primarily pump chevron 91 but the other day I even pumped shell.
SHELL!
& GUESS WHAT?
NOTHING!

GONE ARE THE DAYS OF EXPLAINING TO TINDER DATES WHY I WAS PUTTING LAWN MOWER OIL IN MY CAR DURING FUEL UPS!

Now, before I throw my gallons of TC-W3 oil into the nearest river, I wanted to check in with some of you guys to see if what I'm experiencing isn't an anomaly.

Any 2020 owners out there as surprised as I am? Let me know

If this is true, I wonder how many people will buy one and swap it to test

The new fuel pump was actually used in the 16s but still chirped. They didn't get rid of the noise until they made the cam changes in 17. Just changing to the new pump alone will not get rid of the crickets.

My 17 still chirps on its moody days.
It's pretty rare but it is there.

OK a rephrase is order.

They didn't pretty much get rid of the noise until they changed the cam in 2017.

There are indeed a few that report 17+ cars with occasional chirps. Nothing like the older ones though.

I have not heard one slight peep out of the Hakone though and I am right at the point where it should sound like full on cricket mating season. Sort of miss the little guys sometimes.

The crickets are a feature at this point.

So the 2020's removed the cricket feature...removed a functional stereo system for apple carplay/android auto..

And increased the price....

Did these chirps ever turn into something worse for anyone? Or are they never anything more than a feature noise to spot other 86s? :D

I get them when using 91 E10 (Which us Europeans call 95 E10), and to a lesser extent when using 91 E5. However, for some reason, using 93 E5 makes them go away.

No. They are not hurting a thing. Just mildly annoying for most.

I still hate the 17 HU. They must have worked very hard to make it worse.

2017 reporting in:

No chirping almost 3 years on the revised fuel pump.
Not even the 10% ethanol petrocan 94 will make it sing.

I have no experience with earlier model head units, but my 2020 has probably the crappiest stock HU I've had the displeasure of owning since at least the 90's.

It sounds like poop and the big selling point is stupid cell phone app integration garbage that I will never use.

Maybe it's the gasoline around here but i havent heard crickets in my 2013 for a year or two. Never got the fuel pump changed.
