Brake pad goop

Hi all,

Did a track day with my new DTC-30 brake pads yesterday. After my first session I noticed a liquid goop on the pad backing plate. I don’t use any grease since these are race pads, but I’m wondering if this goop is residual from my oem pads which I took out this past Saturday.

I know I should’ve gone with the DTC-60s, but I’m wondering what this is and if it’s safe to run these still.

This picture was taken today so the goop has solidified.

TIA

Might have been the protective coat/original cosmetic finish on the pads themselves?

This is what I’m hoping. Hawk makes great products so I can’t imagine them structurally failing after 1 run.

I used to track with Yellowstuffs and Carbotech AX6 which absolutely sucked on the track, but they never fell apart on me.

Looks like the paint bubbling off. I would not worry about it.

Just to give you an idea they will look like this after it's all burned off. These are DTC 30

Maybe this is what @HueyLooie actually meant when he said "your dadda's hot goopey goop"?

I'm guessing you just got enough heat in them for that. You could always double-check the spec for the acceptable temperature range, but I dunno how you'd test how hot they got after the fact.

that's entirely paint.

my E39 540i valve cover looks like that, but it's taken years for the paint to bubble.
