Oem front pipe flange rust

2 Attachment(s)
I noticed there was a leak on my front pipe. Already tried new gaskets, i was already thinking about replacing the oem front pipe since i am now boosted with Works turbo stage 2. Was going to get a 2.5 FP to get the exhaust to flow a bit better. But its now a sped up timeline.

Is JDL ultra quiet worth the price? I was going to get a HKS dual resonated front pipe but its only a 60mm(2.3in) pipe diameter. 2.5 quiet front pipe. Any ideas?

I wouldn't worry about the rust on that flange.

:iono: about your other questions.

That car is way too clean, need to go drive in the mud.
That is surface rust and is normal.
Put some exhaust gasket compound on the hard gasket, Follow instructions on finger tighten then wait whatever hours then torque.

Haha yea iono about driving in the mud. Car is lowered. I have never used exhaust rtv/compound. My main concern the leaking since i know my turbo application is gonna run a little rich.

Ill pick some up and report back with results.

No dice.

Put some rtv copper compound. Seems like it leaks more. I dont know either its the gasket or the flange. I already have replace the gasket once.

Im thinking i should just get a 2.5 front pipe to match my downpipe.

Why not bring it somewhere that has a belt sander and ask them to flatten the flange? I'd hardly call that rust (not to belittle the issue you're facing) so unless you're itching for a reason to upgrade, I wouldn't bother

Yea, I understand i could just fix my flange. But since being boosted with a turbo, my downpipe is 2.5 inches and TRD quad tip catback is 2.5 inches. The front pipe and midpipe are tiny. It feels like its choking the turbo a little. Im thinking about getting my local muffler shop to see if i could just get a custom setup since theres no aftermarket 2.5 midpipe that fits my Trd quad exhaust. Its that itch too.:thumbup:

But ill still ask them to flatten my flange thanks for the suggestion!

Totally missed that you're turbo. The backpressure maybe is what's blowing that seal, I definitely support opening the exhaust then!

Yea, the grey pipe is the downpipe. You got any ideas for good quiet 2.5 FP? i only really see the JDL Ultra quiet one.

Literally just bought the ultra quiet front pipe to see if it's better than the straight 3" frontpipe I had made before on my turbo setup. Seems like it'll be perfect

The only time water can sit on an exhaust pipe is before the engine has warmed up.
I do not see an indication of the normal black gas escaping from the pipe. Do you hear the lisp of escaping gas when you are warmed up?

hmm, i see. Honestly, i can't tell. my car is kinda loud already. seems like what @DarkPira7e has said about the backpressure may be correct. i can see water/gass splatter on the top of the frame. so im assuming its somehow coming from the top of the flange.

Car was on for maybe for about 2-3 minutes at this point.
