Exhaust bolt torque specs?
 
Hi, I'm going to be putting my stock catback back on. Just wondering if anyone knows the torque specs for the bolts.

Looking for the following.

Muffler to Midpipe torque specs
Midpipe to front pipe torque specs

Using a 3/8" drive socket manual ratchet, tighten each bolt the same till they are "old muffler bolt tight" then give it another 1/2 turn.

If it leaks, it wasn't tight enough; if the nut strips the threads on the bolt/stud, it was too tight.

OK, OK, I called Bubba at his shop and ask him to put a exhaust stud in his vise and screw down a nut on it with the torque wrench he only uses to torque head bolts and to tighten the nut down "old muffler bolt tight" and tell me what the reading on top of the torque wrench was.

He did that and told me it was 25 ft. lbs.

Now, I don't know how many beers ol Bubba has had tonight, but there is a torque value for you.

From the shop manual.


Tightening torque (Exhaust manifold sub-assembly):

30 N·m (3.1 kgf-m, 22.1 ft-lb)

Tightening torque (Exhaust pipe sub-assembly FR):

35 N·m (3.6 kgf-m, 25.8 ft-lb)

Tightening torque (Exhaust pipe assembly CTR):

18 N·m (1.8 kgf-m, 13.3 ft-lb)

Tightening torque (Exhaust pipe assembly FR):

42.5 N·m (4.3 kgf-m, 31.3 ft-lb)

Tightening torque (Bolts securing bracket of exhaust pipe assembly FR):

50 N·m (5.1 kgf-m, 36.9 ft-lb

Do you if thats in order from front of the car to rear? I understand the description of the first and last ones. I just don't understand the description of the middle 3. Not 100% of what is meant by exhaust sub-assembly FR, exhaust assembly CTR, and exhaust assembly FR.

Does CTR stand for center? If so, then what does FR mean?

22 header
32 overpipe
13 on the spring bolts
37 on the hanger bolt.

It would appear that in the shop manual "FR" is the over pipe and "CTR" is what we would call the front pipe.

I doubt FR means overpipe, since its says FR on the 2nd, 4th, and 5th ones.

But figured it out. It is front to rear. Thanks again for the info.
