Chipped the paint on my 86

It seems as if filling up this car is a curse or something. I always get splashback or the nozzle stops constantly. This time, I was shaking the last few drops out of the pump and hit the top of the tank enclosure. Made a really obvious round chip. Looks like when you take a chomp out of a gobstopper.

I'm not happy obviously but what I'm even more unhappy about is I called Toyota Parts in Parramatta and they told me that Toyotas all come with a can of touch up paint and if they didn't then that's it, bad luck. According to them, they don't sell touch up paint.

Da fuq.

So anyways, just wanted to tell you guys to be careful. The paint on this car chips really easily.

PS: I found out a way to get around the fuel filling problems. Don't just jam the pump right in. I think it forms a seal and the pump can't get air or something so that's why you get splashback and constant stopping. Didn't get it this time.

EDIT - Nobody gets touch up paint with the 86. The parts guys all sounded like old foggies that didn't know what they were talking about.

Would Subaru have touch up paint in the orange? Seeing as though they don't sell the brz in orange? Yes, I know it's all Subaru paint on the 86's but would they stock orange..

This is another clear reason to get a coating such as Opti-Guard whichwill add a protective barrier that is tougher than the regular paint to avoid these issues.

hope you get it all sorted mate.

Man that sucks ..... If ya have a good automotive paint show near by they can usually mix ya up a little tin of paint to match. I had to fix a massive stone chip in my Focus and I got a perfect paint match by having some mixed up.

i didn't get any touch up paint with the car either?
Toyota parts told me something else where they said that toyota stop making touch up paints for quite some time now? lol

I ordered some from Subaru just in case if i ever do need it (i hope i don't) but its roughly 17.70 from memory
for white, there was 1 for base and 1 for color ... i think this would be the case for all pearl colors?

I think no amount of coating will protect your paint from physical damage - very light may be but chipping - no way not if you ding it with a hard metal pipe like the fuel bowser ...
