Forza 4 FRS Tuning Discussion (GRIP)!

I want this thread to be an open forum for tuning the FRS for open lobby racing in Forza 4. I'm by far no tuning master so I am hoping I can get some help!

Right now I have been playing around with some B500 builds and I can't get the balance I want between tire width and weight. Generally speaking I drive light handling cars over heavy power cars in the game but I've not been happy with what I have come up with for the FRS so far.

With the full race weight I wound up on 235F and 245R on race compound. At this weight I couldn't go square because that put me at 502PI. Adding in cage/stiffening is trick too because it increases PI a few but seems to drastically effect acceleration! With the tires fully maxed (275) I wound up at almost 2,600lbs.

SPRING RATES! I'm at a loss here. I have a NC Miata B500 build that I love to drive and I can't seem to replicate this with the FRS. Generally I've had good luck with a decently stiffer front spring that rear but on high speed/flat corners the ass end wants to turn soooo much faster. My car still wants to push in and be loose off.

So yeah I guess I'm looking for some of you Forza tuners out there to step up and help me make my FRS go faster!!!

I try to run a bit softer rear springs than the % weight distribution. Right now I'm running 750/670, which is 52.8% front bias, and it seems pretty neutral with the sport weight reduction. I turned the rear rebound and dampers way down, half a point each. Way too much oversteer stock for a grip setup.

@bneale found it's better to run wider tires for stability than stickier rubber. It's slower but more stable.

I try to keep it square for tires, same front to back width. I'm not a pro, this is some of the stuff I've picked up.:happy0180:

I've been running similar spring rates, maybe a touch softer in the rear.

I find that the stock rebound/dampening is always very high on Forza so I've dropped those values a decent amount with a slightly softer rear end. I also have a stiffer front sway than rear, this by a decent margin actaully. Both settings here are again much softer than stock though. When you add the race sways it makes them VERY stiff.

I can get full 275 race comp on the car in B500, but it's just pretty heavy (which kills acceleration).

So I ended up taking on the wider tires and added weight. The car is much more stable. Corner speeds are similar but I am getting on the throttle WAY WAY sooner which is good but straight line speeds did suffer.

I wound up with 6.5 for handling and Accel. I was also able to achieve this with 245s and race weight but it's not as stable.

This is DEF not going to be a leader board car, but I'm thankful for that.

idk about anyone else but i love the car completely stock. Really fun to drive even if its a little slow. A good testament to how good the car is stock in real life IMO

I never make drift cars, i only focus on Grip. I've gotten very good at tuning my cars to retain grip and have good turn-in. But it'd be a long post it i checked and posted all my tuning numbers.

And this is why your B class FR-S owned mine ;)

I try to make my tunings realistic for a real life budget so mine suck haha

Just set a top 2% time with my c class frs on stock tires. It's all about light weight with this car.

I went back and made another B build for R comp and lightness and wound up at 2295lbs

I've spent a pretty good amount of time on my B500 FR-S in Forza. I'll post up the stats so you guys can try it out and let me know what ya think! This car is a bit more on the speed side compared to the builds you guys were talking about, but I think it is pretty stable and can be very fast in the corners if you have reasonable throttle control.

Parts:
Street Air Filter
Race Fuel System
Sport Ignition
Race Brakes
Race Springs and Dampers
Sport Weight Reduction
Street Tire Compound
245/40/17 Front Tires
245/40/17 Rear Tires
Dymag 9 spoke wheels

That should put the car at 2497 lbs with 245hp and 185 lb/ft torque at B500.

Set-up:

Tires: 34psi front, 33psi rear
Gearing: Stock (Unadjustable)
Alignment: -.08 Camber (F+R), 0 toe (F+R), 5.0 Caster
Anti-Roll: Stock (unadjustable)
Springs: 654 F, 554 R, 4.9" ride height F+R
Damping: 8.0 F 8.4 R (rebound), 7.9 F 5.6R (Bump)
Aero: Stock (Unadjustable)
Braking: 52% Front, 98% Pressure
Differential: Stock (Unadjustable)

I generally drive with ABS on, TCS off, STM off, and manual with clutch.

Let me know what you guys think about that set-up :)

I'll have to use some tips for mine.... It can't seem to stop sliding its rear end around no matter what I do.

Soften the rear springs.

I copied your design step for step on the suspension (because I know nothing about suspension setups) and it gives me a good base to work off of. The last two Forza games I played I started with FWD or AWD until I got something like a Ferrari F430 or 458, and those were good to go without much more than a sway bar and slightly tweaked LSD. This has a much more balanced feel than stock for the FRS, but I cranked the brakes way up because I'm a really aggressive late braker when starting at the back of the pack. Thanks for the help!

FReSh, that's an interesting setup to say the least. What tracks are you running it on?

Cool. It honestly could probably benefit from having a little softer rear springs, but I like the turn-in that it has. Regarding the brakes, I like to turn them down just a touch so that I can trail brake into the corner if I need to. If you set your brake pressure high, you need to make sure you do all (or almost all) of your braking before turn-in.

I'll run it on basically anything. Typically it is better for higher speed tracks. I did most of the tuning on Camino full, road atlanta club, bernese alps club, sedona club, and maple valley full. I used the E-class multi-class race from the race menu when I was tuning. That way I could build up my scion affinity, and race A class cars with my B class tune... It made for a challenging race and I still got all the points for winning if I wasn't able to get past the ferrari at the end since I was technically "registered" in the E-class cars. I recommend taking that tune into that event with professional opponent difficulty... its a challenging race for sure against all the a-class cars.

I'm currently working on an A-class tune for my FRS. It will be largely similar to the B class one, but less weight, more tire, and more power. :) Once I'm satisfied, I'll post it up if ya guys want.

I played a LOT of F1 2012 in between Forza 4 and Forza 5, so I'm used to late braking in a straight line. It's taking a little bit getting used to having very little grip (relatively) through corners again! I'll get back into a "regular" driving style soon enough... but nothing beats the aero grip you get in an F1 car. Looking forward to being able to afford the Lotus F1 or one of the IndyCars in FM5.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to it... once I can justify spending the coin on an xbox1
