Failing Power Steering

Hi All,

I drive a 2013 FRS Series 10, and have been dealing with my power steering intermittently failing. Its fine most of the time, but has bad days. I'm afraid to let my wife drive in its current state, and have begun considering its replacement.

I do not want a different car!

Anyway, when it fails, I hear a beep and then see a steering wheel light on my dash. This can be rectified by restarting the car. It seems to be getting worse, though, and restarting multiple times it not conducive.

I asked my dealership about it, and they tried to sell me a new battery. I had the same thought myself, and had recently replaced the battery when they made this suggestion.

Please Help,
Chris

There's a lot of complaints about this exact issue. Try typing "BRZ Power Steering Failure" in a Google search.

There's a fuse you can replace, but I'd be curious what caused it to fail. Have you had your NEW battery tested? It may seem strange, but if that battery sat around for a long time, it could be functioning just as poorly as your other one.

I'd re-approach the dealership and bring up that this has been an uncommon, but documented issue with these cars and see what they say. Request to see if there is a TSB or recall notice that could cover your car. Ask to speak with a manager.

Do not just accept what they say, at least fight a little.

Yes, I am aware of Google. Thanks? I was hoping to hear from someone who specifically had and addressed this problem.

Find a reputable independant shop and have them read the fault memory from the EPS, you cant get help with a problem if you don't know what the problem is.

Check your alternator. How many miles on the car?

Ok, thanks to everyone for your input. I'll be checking belts, battery, alternator, and power steering codes. Not sure why I waited this long to ask the forums...
