Stock replacement HU with Carplay/Android Auto?

So, I'm seeing a lot of threads about Aus units being imported and installed.

Are there no US market stock replacement head units that preserve backup camera functionality, steering wheel controls, USB jack and add Carplay/Android Auto? I dont care about DVD compatibility and can live with not using the stock mic, but I would hate to give up HD Radio (though I would for Android Auto/Carplay)

Is there a list of known options and I missed it? Or can we start one?

Plenty of US models keep everything. The reason people import is so they don't have to use a filler kit for the radio opening. A standard double-din works just fine, but the stock opening is bit bigger at 200mm. That's all.

I myself have a regular old US market Pioneer. Has everything on your list.

There are a lot of aftermarket stereos even custom Frankenstein tablet/stereo ones.
As said before you'll need an install kit. But that's is not a huge issue unless you are super anal about oem replacements

Ah - ok, that was the part I was missing. Its 200mm vs double-din. That makes sense now. Thanks for the clarification!

Is the OEM USB port compatible with Android Auto? (i.e. Does the OEM USB port transfer data and not just power?)

Planning to install a new Pioneer HU with Android Auto and want to know if the OEM USB port needs to be swapped out in order to utilize the feature.

Yes, you just need the right adapter.

But honestly it’s in a terrible position for that. I put a second port in place of the 12v socket by the cup holders and that’s much better.

Thanks, really good to know.

You're right, the 12v socket by the cup holders is probably a better place, since there's literally no other place to put a phone.

So, who has US models they like? I'm looking for most stock like, not something that will stick out too obviously as aftermarket.

I found this to just add carplay/android auto to stock, which would be great, but I feel like for the price, I could replace the whole thing with something better.

Are there any similar options that arent $500?

My Sony was ~$400 all said and done.

New headunit time! I got tired of debugging the Android headunit as often as it needed it. Queue a Sony XAV-AX5000 with Carplay/AA. I can highly recommend this unit. I paired it with the JDM radio filler panels (Google "brz av escutcheon" to find them) as every other dash kit I've found available looks like crap.

Do you have any pictures to share of the second outlet?

It’s a generic marine type panel mount USB extension, it dropped right in to the 12V hole.

That looks as good as I could imagine for a less than 100% stock fit. I'll be on the lookout for those. I would be perfectly happy with that.
How is the sound/power compared to stock?

Great. Sound is significantly better. UI is clean and processing power is more than enough such that it never hangs up. Bluetooth APTX and AAC support so even Bluetooth sounds great.
