continuous revving in neutral. bad for engine?
After I installed header and catback today, I asked my wife to rev the engine in neutral while I went under the car to check for exhaust leaks. when I went under the car I noticed she wasn't revving it like blipping the throttle, but rather continuously keeping her foot on the gas and keeping the revs about 3000 rpm. This went on for about a minute and the car was idling for 5 min before that.
Would this do any permanent damage to engine or any component in our cars? |
Yes. Car is totally totaled.
If you keep driving it around the exhaust manifold will flash critical error and will explode. Unfortunately it's so close to your nuts that the shards will take them clean off. I wouldn't even bother to try to sell it. Just junk it. But tell you what, I'm such a nice guy I'll buy it off you for $500. I'll even go to pick it up. Old man @humfrz lost his third nut that way. |

The car faces more stress when you leave a stop than it did with your wife raising the rpm. As long as it has coolant, fuel, and oil, it's safe.
