Hey guys, im thinking about purchasing a 2013 Scion FRS and need some opinions.
Its $16000 and its only got 2500 miles on it. My biggest concern is that it wasn't driven enough so its in poor condition. I went and test drove it, and in my test drive it was fine. It is at a Honda dealership, so they've done an inspection. They replaced the tires and the oil but that is it. What do you guys think?

Also if anyone has any guesses, how much do you guys think it will depreciate over the next 3-5 years if I maintain it well?

As soon as you buy it, the value will go down to 12-13,000. Even with that mileage, it's just not worth all that much. Is there a reason you want a 2013 over any other model year? It could be affected by the valve spring recall (unlikely).

I'd use that money and get a 2015/2016 with various improvements and look for one with about 20k miles.

Even at that low mileage it is still a 7 year old car that is not hard to find. $16K is a lot.
Cars depreciate so it will never hold value.

It is overpriced by at least $2,000 for a 13 even with those low miles so your question about depreciation is moot as pointed out by Dark.

Oh no, dark asked if there was a reason I wanted the 13, I was just saying it was close to me and had low mileage, not that I was dead set on the 13 haha

If you can talk them down to $14-15k go for it. Just make sure that vin is not the one with the recall. You can get well maintained cars by forum users with goodies for that price. Heck a buddy of mine is selling his turbocharged widebody for $16k.

That is a good find. Since it is not modified and just 2500 miles, I would buy that one instead of a modified, low mileage as others suggested. 2500 miles is practically new.

You can find a 2017 for under $20,000.

You can find one way cheaper....it has low miles but this car isnt collector status special.

It'd make more sense if that 16k was in CAD dollars but even that would be a little on the high side.

I would much rather have a 2014 and up with more miles than a low mile 2013. Do some research into the valve spring issue. Not something I'd like to deal with personally. I've owned my 2015 for 22k miles now. Bought it at 42k. Zero issues and it's one of the easiest cars to maintain I've ever owned. A sub 50k mile frs/brz between 2014-2017 for around 15k should be doable. I recommend getting a stock one, driving it like that for a bit, then modding from there if you want, but a lightly modded car that has been taken care of ain't bad either and might save you some cash if the owner has done things you would end up doing anyway. Whatever you decide, enjoy the car!

Check VIN make sure not subject to recall

Work on them to come down in price a couple grand

Make sure it’s not a flood car!

Is it a color that is no longer available?

Curious about only 2500 miles? Did someone buy it and then enlist in the services?

My one hesitation is no warranty. The2013 year has some issues that you need to be aware of - door gaskets can leak in heavy rain. I had mine replaced. And the tail light gaskets would allow condensation inside the housing.

If they are willing to give you a bumper to bumper warranty for 18-24 months it could be a good buy. As others have said, a 2-3 year old car could be a better deal. Especially if it’s a CPO.
