Recent car accident

Well, i figured i could post this here.

On the way to my last day of highschool, a crossing guard at this one intersection in front of the school jumped into the road to let kids cross during a green light about 20 feet in front of me. I slammed the brakes and avoid vehicular manslaughter, but some guy behind me didn't react so quickly.

My impala made out pretty well i'd say. The things are built like damn tanks

Holy jesus. Your impala IS A TANK. Lol You probably have some internal bumper damage but daaaaaaaaayummm that... Toyota Avalon (?) got beat!

Other then that, how fast were you going? Its a school zone so I'm assuming its 20-30mph.

It was about 20-25ish. And believe it or not, that piece used to be an intrepid, go figure.

After some closer non-professional inspection of it, we found out the rear bumper isn't affected, less the paint being a little worked, but the exhaust tip have a notch in the end and a scratch across the top somehow. Also, it obliterated the underglow kit i had on the back. (thats the wire and little bar on the bottom left of the second picture, the rest of the bar is still mounted.

Oh and even though we all agree that the crossing guard caused the accident, the cops dropped it on him for following too close. :happyanim:

Yeah, that's generally how it goes in a rear end collision. Unless there's so many vehicles involved that the cop can't determine blame.

Yeah, i especially like the river of coolant and how his left headlight lens just decided to peace out.

Happy no one was seriously hurt. Was the guy behind you a fellow classmate/student?

Sea1monkey2 06-09-2011 01:26 AM

Yup, the kid was a junior (he's in the red "shady" shirt), so he still has another week or so. I did walk away from it being able to say "i ended my high school career with a bang" though, and really... doesn't that make it worth it in the end.

Glad you are alright and the ride is alright. I got rear-ended by a dump truck around that age and it sucked! Had a hell of a time getting a rental, the insurance companies were ****s, and in the end it was more of a hassle to me than anyone else.

I bet the intrepid gets totaled. And his insurance rates are gonna be rough for at least a few years.

I know the feeling. About a year after I got my celica, I got into the middle of a 4 car pile up- I was hit by a truck and pushed into a mini cooper. The car was more or less totalled, but the insurance company refused to total it and I had to get one of the lawyers I worked with to call them just so they would cut me some sort of check to get the car out of the impound. It wasn't enough to pay for all the damage so I ended up having to slowly fix it myself. I was stuck driving the beat up heap for another 2 years until I got t-boned by an old lady that didn't feel like waiting for traffic to clear before pulling out of an apartment complex. Again, the insurance company didn't total the car, but the check ended up being enough to pay off the balance of my loan. I finally sold that car a couple of months ago.

I'll never forget finally finding a rental place that would rent to me at 18... some shady used car lot, white dude with an unbuttoned flower print shirt in red alligator shoes... $400 a week for a 5 year old Malibu that smelled like grape piss. And since it wasn't a chain store I had to get reimbursed weekly. I should have taken that insurance company to the cleaners...

You guys don't have an enterprise around? o_O

I was in the middle of a 5 car accident. ;o

A giant ass ford SUV 2010 plowed into a 98 camry LE, which got totaled (rear and trunk got destroyed), then plowed into a honda 09 civic, then freaking destroyed yaris hatch's bumpers and rear windows etc, and I flew forward and hit a fking Toyota Sienna '08(?). Lol... Damn gas saver cars take more damage than anything. Lol.

Anyways, the dumbass in the SUV had to pay for all 4 cars + "bodily" damages. So I got.. 8k for my car and 1k for "bodily damages" lol. And that idiot had to pay for my car rental. Which was an audi tt. :P

But, I can feel what you guys mean when the insurance guy gives you a hard time...What insurance do you guys have? They must be crappy. Lol

Well, at the time I was 18 and every chain company I called, including Enterprise, wouldn't rent to me. Most said you have to be 25 or older, some were 21 or older. The place I went to was actually a buy-here-pay-here used car lot that rented cars too... still makes me feel dirty. haha

At the time I was under progressive. I dropped them as my insurer when they refused to pay for the damages to my car and kept passing me on to the insurance companies of the others involved in the accident. Essentially, I got the lawyer involved just to get someone to get me some sort of compensation so I could get the Celica out of the impound before it was declared abandoned.
