what would an xsb build even look like
I was talking to someone about the class this weekend and besides the obvious ls swap and ethanol, what would it be like? with the 2700lb there obvious isnt a need for much weight reduction.

Right now you could probably do pretty well with just a supercharger, e85, 300whp, 18x10s with 275s on them and some ghetto aero. Tweak coilovers appropriately. If anyone takes the class seriously then 18x12 and playing with 295/315 will be necessary, and more power might be nice, build the engine, more boost, shouldn't need more than 400ish so I don't see why you'd even bother with an engine swap.
And I think you mean xsa, you'll be at least 300# over minimum in XSB whereas you can fairly easily ballast up to xsa with like 100# and be more competitive. |

oh yeah that is what i mean. i was talking to someone that bought a project miata and was gonna kswap it and was in xsb. would 300whp even be enough to run against turboed Zs making 100+ more than us? i would it would be fun to slap a jrsc and e85 on with a plywood splitter and spoiler, but i have no idea how to fit 275s up front. i guess sawzall? |
They're Street tires, they only put down so much power, it will never be able to use the same amount of power of an SM car on 315 Hoosier A7s, and the dominant 240sx Panda makes less than 400 at the wheels. Same story with the kiesel Sprite.
Weight will be the 86s advantage against the 350/370Z, and I'd prefer Edelbrock sc for a broader torque curve, the 86s weakest point, but the jrsc is certainly more proven. However a well built AWD car will be quite formidable, xs will be dominated by determination, not chassis choice since it's a supplemental class. |

yeah ive seen some really really mean older subarus. thanks for the info i was just wondering since it is a new class (which might not exist next year) and i've never seen anyone in it. i dont have like 10k+ to light on fire so ill stay in stx for now |
Andrew Pallotta almost won PAX (which for perspective is 2 seconds faster than STX on a minute course) in John Laughlin's modded Tesla. He raw timed a very good AS driver by 2 seconds.
I think it probably goes something like Tesla > gas powered AWD > heavily ballasted NC or the like > less heavily ballasted dimensionally larger cars like the FRS. ...but at this point, nobody is running the class at all. |

im really thinking about running this next year. with the exception of philly there isnt anyone in stx that is good and i rather get my ass beat by 5 XSA cars than either have no one in my class or someone i cake walk. it seems like at least 1/2 this class are running modified type R civics |
Same, I believe my car needs a smog check this winter which means OE header is going back on. Might just leave it on and buy an Edelbrock (or Harrop if they pass CARB testing before I buy) and just keep the rest of my cheapo STX setup for the beginning part of next season. Could spend >$10k getting into something, heavier, faster, more expensive on consumables and more expensive to modify like a Corvette or Cayman or Type R or Golf R, or spend ~$8k on SC and oil cooler and continue to be quicker around an autox course. Corona and depression have pretty much killed any desire to mount a Nats challenge at any point in the near future so might as well just slide around for fun.
Probably just sticking with 17x9's, burn up the 245's and maybe try 265 BFG or Bridgestone, maybe buy a set of A7's for giggles to go for a TTOD outside of the Mod/Prepared cars. |
I'm running XS-A Regionally.
2018 BRZ tS Full Race Borg Warner EFR 7163 Twinscroll turbo kit. Somewhere between 350-400whp on ethanol. FA500 Coilovers *Currently* 17x9 +38 Rays 57CR w/ 255/40/r17 RE71s Verus RLCAS Various Suspension bushings. So far, I'm class lead in KY/TN region when we do our Border Wars events. It's a fun class and exciting to see some of the cars it attracts. I need to go wider though. |

i guess i need to start researching FI kits. i know there was what someone claimed a 490whp supra in the class a few events ago but i PAXed 1 lower than him so im not as scared as i would be on paper. hows the lag? ive had some people sayin to get the jrsc because the edelbrock heat soaks but it seems like everyone recommends that or harrop |
Porsche Cayman would be a strong XSA car IMO.

Full Race Twinscroll is fully spooled by 3500rpm. So I have no lag. Quote:
