TRD + Koni or Tien Coilovers
My car is currently sitting on TRD with factory shocks. I was looking to upgrade the shocks to the Koni Adjustables as it seems very popular here. However, in looking I also saw the TIEN Flex Z coilovers for basically the same price.
Is the net result about the same or will the coilovers be better still? Context: daily driver and first year of autox. Want soft street driving but also good track performance. Driving street class now, if i get coilovers it will push me to STX with no other mods and may be less competitive Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk |
You WILL be less competitive in STX without header, tune, 17x9 wheels, 245-255 wide tires and suspension+alignment tuned for that grip compared to Street class with the Konis.
You should be faster with the Teins vs. the Konis mostly by virtue of getting significantly more camber than what is allowed in Street, the stiffer springs will help with the confidence a bit and that'll be fun. You already bought wheels that put you in STX so might as well try out the Teins unless you've gone back on that decision. imho if you're serious about autox you'll end up selling either option eventually anyway, either to leave Street for SSC/STX or to pick up a more autox focused coilover, by all accounts the Teins are competent but not favored by autox die-hards. Edit; If I was a patient sort, SSC spec Koni yellows aren't much more expensive then regular Koni's, are still a good fit for Street class and give you the option to build an SSC car without having to sell your dampers next season or the season after that. Build the car that makes you excited to drive it, I think that'd be the Teins, figure out making it competitive later. |
I enjoyed my Tein Flex A's which is similar to the Flex Zs :)

You should go to your first auto x event before worrying about anything. Decide after once you know what you’re looking for.
Sounds like springs/shocks would work best in your case. |
