Hill assist activated, no engagement ?

I have a brand new 2019 BRZ. I have activated the hill assist and the light is on. It is not activating. Is this a package issue? I do believe all vehicles in 2019 of this type came equipped with it.

you need to be on a STEEP hill in order for it to activate. It assumes you'll be able to handle anything less steep on your own lol

I think I just had a PTSD flashback. New to the clutch, on a hill with people on my ass. Old school foot actuated, ratchet style parking brake...so no help there. It was either stall, ride the clutch or burn rubber. God that sucked!

Hahahaha. Thank you guys. I was really was hoping it would actually work. I did not try a very steep hill. I am well versed in driving a manual, so there is no problem there.

Mine is a 2017, my hill assist will work if the car will roll but you have to mash the brake on the hill first and then it works on delay from the time you let off the brake. The harder you mash the brake the harder it locks.

10-4. That is vastly different from my 2017 Jetta, which was basically instant.

We had a similar issue not very long ago.

The hill doesn't have to be very steep, the video I posted in that thread was on a gentle slope.

drop, pop, and lock it!

It has to be a steep hill otherwise it doesn't work.
Small gradients do not really engage it.

On a steep hill with foot on brake and without putting in gear, just press clutch and you will notice the hill assist light flashing. If it doesn't flash then its not engaged.
