Flex fuel kit. School me

Im interested in running e85 in my car. Do the typical kits comunicate with the oem ecu or is something else required. The kits i looked at dont seem to have a built in computer. Im basing that off shear size of the unit. I have seen kits from 130 to 900. Trying to make the right decisions
Thanks

You only need a flex fuel kit if you want to be able to bounce back and forth from e85 to gas on the fly (or use the different concentrations of E) as far as I know.

The flex fuel kit would however speak to the ecu that has been flashed to work with it.

pump ethanol doesn't guarantee ethanol content. The pumps themselves say FLEX FUEL VEHICLES ONLY, not E85 vehicles only.

If youre tuned for E85, and one day get E70 from a pump, you may have a bad time.

But they do.

The rest is up to your tuner to do.

The Ethanol Content Analyzer (ECA) will be very small. Only a few inches. It will communicate with the ECU via a single wire. Different kits might cannibalize existing wiring or otherwise plug and play but all the components you need are: ethanol sensor, fittings, ECA, some wiring for power/ground) etc, a tune. I imagine the large variance in cost between kits is based on plug and play levels and how fancy the fittings are. I had a pieced together kit that I got used for like $120. Or your can buy a super fancy smart phone app, chain into existing wiring connectors, all -AN fitting kits that are pretty spendy. I do recommend you run flex fuel to protect your investment (your car). How expensive you want to get is up to you. Feel free to ask any questions. I'm happy to help

That's a fair point.
