Short Shifter
I keep searching all around for a short throw and I can not seem to find one, does anyone have any info? I bought the Perrin rubber bushing thing but Id like to get something better like a TWM or a TRD if it was available. Any help would be great.

I don't think one is out yet. I've been looking since its usually an easy first mod.
Haven't seen one yet, but I ordered a Perrin shifter bushing in a groupbuy to help relieve that excess slack. Haven't arrived yet. I do remember reading B&M asking a forum member to borrow their car for measurements and photos though, so someone is at least working on it. |
STi have one in the works.. or could be released. check the site www.sti.jp

Throw is pretty short already isn't it? Any shorter and you have a toggle switch. :D

toggle switch, lol
Short throw with a slightly longer shifter rod could be good. End up with close to stock throw but a bit higher and closer to the wheel. |

I would definitely do some stiffer shifter bushings, but I would be afraid a new shifter might mess up the already good factory feel. |
The shifter feels about what my tc was with the TRD short shifter, but a bit smoother. Actually, the throw might be a tad bit longer. I would prefer to keep the stock height, actually.
Some of my friends were shocked when they found out I had a short shifter, and asked why it was so high still. I liked it at the stock height- never had to "find" the shifter or really move my arm too far. A friend had one on an integra and damn that was tiny. No joke, you had to move your hand about a foot and a half to get to the shifter. It was barely higher than the shifter surround. Shifting took so long in that car because of that. |

I had a TRD one on my tc and that improved the feel. I knew someone with an early 2000 mustang that had a B&M shifter and it was so stiff, chunky, and took away the feel. It just felt like you were moving a metal stick around a vat of almost dry cement, bumping it into metal gates. It also made reverse harder to engage. |
You might also want to try TWM...they had something in the works last I heard...

Yesterday i went to BPS, they are located in Napierville, Quebec.
We took out my shifter and took some measurement and the prototype should be ready next week. They are also changing the rubber bushing at the bottom of the shifter(black part in picture) to put a polyurethane bushing. Everything is CNC and will be black anodized. I really can't wait to try it and give you feedback. Keep in mind i am tracking the car so i do want the best, in that case i will propably change the shift knob for one of theirs wich is heavier and will make shifting easier, acting as a counter weight. p.s you can also see one of their shifter on top. http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/c...shortshift.jpg |
One last thing, we will not play with the shifter length but reduce the throw only, since the shifter position sits almost perfectly!
