VLAND Headlights

Hi guys, looking to purchase some VLANDS for my 2016 pre facelift BRZ. Im very new to the whole lighting and electrical aspect of things, can I buy the headlights (they dont come with bulbs), and then buy just a set of bulbs separately, or do I need a full HID kit (whatever that is). I understand they only take h7, d2s, and d2h bulbs.

You'll need a full HID kit. So bulbs, ballasts, wiring.

Just be prepared, the Vlands’ light output is a lot worse than the stock BRZ lights.

These are the same as VLands and come with a HID kit. I finally pulled the trigger on them today. 10% off with the MDS10 promo code that expires today. They are backordered again but hopefully they get a new shipment next month.

I talked to my guy and he said they’re on backorder until late August

H7 can be used, but the housings are made for D2H, so the H7 bulb doesn't fit well. No OEM DxS bulb will fit because of the bulk to the bulbs and the housing.

Buy a HID kit for D2H with an H7 power adapter and a standard relay kit (not a canbus adapter).

Not at all.

This is running a 6500k bulb. I since have changed to a 5500k, but I doubt there is much difference between my output and the OEM setup.

Here are some bad pictures (iPhone 6). These headlights allow for better output than many OEM HID headlights.

I’m assuming those pictures are vlands with an HID kit installed cause I’ve heard halogens in VLANDs sucks

Absolutely they are a lot worse out of the box with the standard halogen bulb. Obviously if you put a new HID kit on it will increase output, just like any other housing.

I actually ran a Sylvania Ultra White bulb for a while before my HID kit came in, and it isn't as bright or white, but the cutoff is the same. In order for it to fit I had to file down a tab. Maybe others don't file it down, so the bulb sits crooked, and it doesn't project well.

The problem with filing down the tab is that the D2H bulbs use the tab to orient the bulb correctly in the housing, so it takes more effort to align them later. I suggest just getting the D2H kit. Check out my build for pictures of where I mounted them.

My kit didn't even come with a bulb. I think some vendors throw in a bulb, but saying the headlights are worse is like saying aftermarket wheels are worse than the stock rims because the aftermarket rims come with no tires or because some vendors includes the rims with some crapped tires.

We are talking about the headlights--not the bulbs. The headlights are good.

I would stand by that as well. Wheel is only as good as the tire that's on it. Aesthetics without proper function is good only if the car never moves. If you have to make an additional investment to get the advertised function, it's worth bringing up.

All aftermarket headlights are pretty much the same--SpecD, Winjet, etc--H7 or HID. For some reason these headlights get a lot of negative comments from people who don't own them.

That's unfortunate. Thanks for the heads up. I knew I should've bought them a few weeks ago when they came back in stock.

Any options for those who come from 2017+ bi-led setup?
