need help with engine noise
[mods/admins: apologies in advance if this is posted in wrong area. please let me know if i need to move it.]
ok y’all, need some help. i changed my oil last weekend (05/09; used pennzoil platinum full synthetic 0w-20). i drove to work monday morning, and there was white smoke coming out from the hood. when i got to work, i checked my oil level and she was empty. oil plug was still there, so was my filter, oil cap and dip stick. so nothing silly like that was missed. picked up some mobil1 full synthetic 0w-20 at lunch just to fill the oil to level, but ultimately had to get her towed from chandler back to queen creek. i dumped all the oil and refilled it with a quart of lucas oil stabilizer and the rest with royal purple 5w-30; and also installed a new filter. the noise in the video, although loud, is considerably quieter than it was on monday. the second portion of the video is me just putting her in gear and straightening her in the driveway. i would greatly appreciate any HELPFUL thoughts/suggestions/advice? thanks fam. https://youtu.be/M7BbXlp0cR8 |
Woh that's some loud knock.
Was there any issues before the oil change? Any mods to the engine? Any check engine lights? I really hope it's not the valves hitting the pistons. But who knows. Others would chime in shortly. |
It sounds like the valves are toast I am afraid. How often do you change oil?

How much additional oil did you have to add?

Oh......THAT'S one nasty noise - :sigh:
After you refilled the crankcase the last time, has the engine maintained the oil level? Is there any oil under the crankcase drain plug after the car has been parked for a while? Was your car under the valve spring recall? If so, did you have the work done? |
For it to burn that much oil in a couple weeks i would have thought you'd see clouds of blue smoke coming out the exhaust. i dunno, weird. did it leak out the filter housing or something? i had a leak once from there due to a mechanic not tightening it down enough. most of these engines leak or seep oil it seems tbh
