Big seat for a fat boy?
I'm old and overweight, but I still enjoy track driving...I'm 5', 10" tall and weigh 255 lbs, w/a 42" waist. I need a race seat, 'cause it really doesn't work so well to be holding myself in place with the steering wheel while cornering, lol! I've got a 3" lap belt to cinch myself in, along with the factory belts, but the factory seat, as good as it is, doesn't have high enough sides for my thighs and upper body.
So, what's the widest seat somebody has been able to get in the car and retain sliders? I'd love to be able to use the Brey-Krause seat mounts which bolt to the factory slider, but even the larger set doesn't seem to accept anything more than a medium width seat. I do have an Autopower rollbar welded in the car, so I've got good harness mounting available. Has anyone installed an OMP HTE-R XL seat in the car? If so, how was it mounted? Brand names would help me please, following posting rules, no solicitation, no pricing. With this forum base, some of you must have run into this. Thanks in advance. |
Possible try to lose some weight bro. Not trying to be mean but health is wealth man. Car will go faster too.

Lol, it's not always that easy to lose weight, especially when you're older. I'm sure hes not the first "curvy" guy to do a track day. Someone will have some info.

so this isn't the same issue, but another potential option.

This helped a ton for me. Also Camry XSE headrests aren’t pushed forward as much but look the same. |

i've tried it a few times just to see, and it does make for a lot more space. |

It sounds like you would be comfortable in the seat from my old 1979 Lincoln Continental Mark V. Pick one up from a wrecking yard, I'm sure it would slip right in there -
Seriously, maybe have a seat custom built? :iono: |

*my high school years were at the tail end of that seat trend. i knew a few guy's at the time that would pick their cars based on seating 'performance'. but then the 90's on up moved towards bucket seats, and it had begun to be difficult for those 'seating enthusiasts' to find vehicles that still offered the right amount of smooth-sliding capability that more pre-90 vehicles offered. |

Running sliders with a large seat in a BRZ creates issues beyond base width, particularly a containment seat like the HTE-R XL. Even with a fixed plate, my Sparco Ergo-L, with a similar design, required removal of the headliner to ensure proper clearance. That, however, was also a function of the fact that I am 6'3" and needed the seat pretty far back.
I know people have put OMP WRC-XLs with sliders in BRZs. Not aware of very many other large seats. |
You will need to use the PCI fixed adjustable seat mount. The OMP HTE XL will fit.

Lookup kirkey racing seats. The can make custom stuff too

I have an OMP WRC XL and had a couple configurations. I'm pretty sure you won't have any of my seat issues since the HTE-R XL has almost 2 inches more clearance on both sides I believe on the shoulders and 3/4 inch on the base. Started with a Sparco base and Sparco rails with OMP HC733 brackets. Mounting everything as far right as I could, the trans tunnel rubbed a little on the front corner and the shoulder padding rubbed a little on the door. Nothing major but was constant contact which caused the door to squeak. I also had to cut about half an inch from the slider rails as the Sparco base is at an angle and you will not be able to go full extension before the inner rails hit the floor. This combo does sit higher than stock though, maybe 1-1.5 inches or so but was comfortable and easy to put in. I also tried the Buddy Club Super Low rails. A lot more contact on the door than the previous setup but it sits lower than stock. I was able to close the door fully so I would think that you might barely touch if at all on the shoulder. The rails are absolute garbage though so dont expect a smooth slide. Right now I'm using the Sparco base with no rails and modified mounting points for the brackets to give me a sliver of space between the door while being lower than the Buddy Clubs. I'm the only driver so no need to move the seat but I am thinking of modifying the Buddy Club with some custom brackets for funsies. Hope this helps. |
